The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints renew their NFC South rivalry under the Monday night lights at Caesars Superdome.
Both teams enter at 1-2, but their Week 3 performances were dramatically different. Atlanta exploded for a 35-14 road victory over Green Bay, while New Orleans fell 35-27 to Las Vegas despite producing 376 yards of offense.
New Orleans enters as a 3-point home favorite, with the 48.5-point total suggesting another productive offensive night could be coming.
Matchup: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints Date: Monday, October 5, 2026 Kickoff: 8:15 PM ET TV: ESPN Venue: Caesars Superdome — New Orleans, Louisiana Tickets: As low as $87 Point Spread: New Orleans -3 Over/Under: 48.5
The matchup closes Week 4 and gives both teams an opportunity to get back to .500 in an important divisional game.
Michael Penix Jr. made his season debut against Green Bay and immediately provided Atlanta with a spark.
Penix completed 18 of 25 passes for 256 yards and one touchdown, averaging 10.2 yards per attempt. Most importantly, Atlanta’s offense finally created explosive plays after struggling through its first two games.
Drake London was the biggest beneficiary.
London caught nine passes for 194 yards against Green Bay and now has 274 receiving yards through three games.
But Atlanta’s offense still revolves around Bijan Robinson.
Robinson enters Monday with 349 rushing yards on 66 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt. He erupted for 194 yards and two touchdowns against Green Bay and has also contributed 118 receiving yards this season.
New Orleans has allowed 386 rushing yards at 4.7 yards per carry, making Robinson one of Atlanta’s most important matchup advantages.
Tyler Shough has become the engine of the New Orleans offense.
Through three games, Shough has completed 91 of 132 passes for 917 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, averaging more than 300 passing yards per game.
He threw for 250 yards and a career-high four touchdowns against Las Vegas, although the Saints committed four turnovers in the loss.
Chris Olave remains Shough’s top weapon.
Olave caught nine passes for 107 yards against the Raiders and has accumulated 375 receiving yards through three games. Juwan Johnson has also become an important red-zone option with three touchdowns.
The concern is protection.
New Orleans has allowed 10 sacks, while Atlanta’s defense has been particularly effective against the run, surrendering only 143 rushing yards through three games.
That could force Shough to carry an even larger portion of the offense.
Robinson is coming off one of the strongest rushing performances of the young season.
He carried 29 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns against Green Bay and now averages more than 116 rushing yards per game.
New Orleans has surrendered 128.7 rushing yards per game, making Robinson a logical focal point again.
Prediction: Bijan Robinson — 104 rushing yards
Penix looked comfortable immediately in his return.
He threw for 256 yards without taking a sack against Green Bay and connected repeatedly with London downfield. A current passing-yard market has been listed around 220.5 yards.
Prediction: Michael Penix Jr. — 238 passing yards
Olave has been one of the NFL’s most productive receivers through three games.
He has 27 receptions for 375 yards, including 107 against Las Vegas. Atlanta is allowing approximately 263 passing yards per game, creating another favorable volume opportunity.
Prediction: Chris Olave — 88 receiving yards
London’s Week 3 performance showed what this passing game can become with Penix under center.
He produced 194 yards on nine receptions and enters Monday averaging 18.3 yards per catch.
New Orleans has allowed opposing quarterbacks a passer rating above 100 through three games.
Prediction: Drake London — 82 receiving yards
Robinson has 467 yards from scrimmage through three games and gives Atlanta the ability to control the matchup both rushing and receiving.
London’s 194-yard breakout against Green Bay could signal the beginning of a much more aggressive Atlanta passing attack.
Shough has thrown eight touchdown passes in three games and is averaging 305.7 passing yards per game.
Olave has become the clear centerpiece of the passing attack and should again see heavy volume Monday night.
Atlanta needs to establish Robinson and force New Orleans to commit additional defenders to the box. That would create one-on-one opportunities for London downfield.
Defensively, Atlanta’s priority is pressure. New Orleans has already surrendered 10 sacks, and disrupting Shough could help the Falcons create the turnovers Las Vegas generated last week.
For the Saints, ball security is critical after committing four giveaways against the Raiders.
New Orleans must also find a way to contain Robinson. If Atlanta controls the ground game, the Falcons can dictate tempo and keep Shough and Olave on the sideline.
The 48.5-point total makes sense considering New Orleans has scored 10 touchdowns through three games and Atlanta just produced 35 points in Penix’s return.
The Saints have the advantage of playing inside the Superdome, and Shough has been the more established quarterback this season.
Atlanta, however, owns an enormous rushing advantage with Robinson facing a New Orleans defense that has allowed 4.7 yards per carry.
This should remain close deep into the fourth quarter.
The Saints’ passing attack gives Atlanta problems, particularly with Olave producing at an elite level early in the season.
But Robinson provides Atlanta with the matchup’s most dependable offensive weapon.
Expect the Falcons to lean heavily on Robinson, while Penix takes advantage of play-action opportunities to London.
New Orleans answers with Shough and Olave, setting up a high-scoring divisional finish.
