The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Soldier Field on Monday night for an NFC matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Philadelphia enters at 2-0, while Chicago is 1-1 and facing major uncertainty at quarterback. Caleb Williams has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, leaving Tyson Bagent or veteran Case Keenum to handle the offense.
That quarterback situation gives Philadelphia an important advantage and helps explain why the Eagles enter as 4.5-point road favorites.
Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears Date: Monday, September 28, 2026 Kickoff: 8:15 PM ET TV: ESPN/ABC Venue: Soldier Field — Chicago, Illinois Tickets: As low as $208 Point Spread: Philadelphia -4.5 Over/Under: 41.5
Philadelphia hasn’t dominated through two games, but Jalen Hurts has consistently made enough plays to keep the Eagles undefeated.
Hurts has completed 40 of 62 passes for 467 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 62 rushing yards.
Philadelphia defeated Washington 24-22 before escaping Tennessee with a 24-20 victory.
One offensive storyline is Saquon Barkley’s slow start. Barkley has rushed for just 92 yards on 19 carries, but Chicago’s defense could provide an opportunity for a breakout performance.
The Bears have allowed 122 rushing yards per game and 4.9 yards per carry.
Philadelphia will also be without tight end Dallas Goedert, putting additional responsibility on Hurts and the Eagles’ remaining receivers.
Chicago opened the season with an explosive 59-point performance against Carolina but followed that with a 9-3 loss to Minnesota.
Now the Bears must play Philadelphia without Williams.
Bagent completed five of nine passes for 54 yards after replacing Williams against Minnesota, while Keenum gives Chicago a veteran alternative.
Regardless of who starts, expect the Bears to rely heavily on D’Andre Swift.
Swift has rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns through two games and gives Chicago a valuable option both as a runner and receiver.
The Bears’ best path to an upset is controlling possession, limiting Philadelphia’s pass rush and avoiding turnovers.
Hurts is averaging 233.5 passing yards through two games.
He threw for 203 yards against Washington before producing 264 against Tennessee.
Chicago has allowed approximately 240 passing yards per game, giving Hurts a favorable opportunity to clear this number.
Prediction: Jalen Hurts — 242 passing yards
Barkley hasn’t produced his typical numbers yet, but this matchup could change that.
Chicago has struggled against the run, and Philadelphia being favored increases the possibility of Barkley receiving additional second-half carries.
If the Eagles establish control, expect Barkley to become a major part of the game plan.
Prediction: Saquon Barkley — 79 rushing yards
Chicago’s quarterback situation makes Swift especially interesting as a receiver.
Backup quarterbacks often rely on running backs for screens and short checkdowns, especially when facing pressure.
Swift only needs a couple of receptions to threaten this number.
Prediction: D’Andre Swift — 19 receiving yards
Hurts remains dangerous whenever passing plays break down.
He rushed for 46 yards in Week 1 and has 62 rushing yards overall.
Chicago must defend Barkley while also maintaining containment on Hurts, which is easier said than done.
Prediction: Jalen Hurts — 31 rushing yards
Hurts has thrown five touchdown passes through two games and remains Philadelphia’s most important offensive weapon.
Chicago must pressure him without allowing him to escape for easy rushing yards.
Barkley is due for a larger workload and potentially a breakout performance.
Chicago’s early struggles against the run make him especially important Monday night.
Swift should be the centerpiece of Chicago’s offense.
The Bears need him as a runner, receiver and safety valve for whichever quarterback gets the start.
Philadelphia needs to stop Swift, force Chicago’s backup quarterback into obvious passing situations and avoid the turnovers that nearly cost the Eagles against Tennessee.
Chicago must establish the running game and protect its quarterback. If Philadelphia consistently creates third-and-long situations, the Bears could struggle to sustain drives.
The Bears also cannot afford empty possessions. With Williams sidelined, field goals, turnovers and missed scoring chances become even more costly.
Philadelphia owns the biggest advantage at quarterback.
Chicago’s offense showed tremendous potential in Week 1 but struggled badly against Minnesota before Williams suffered his hamstring injury.
The Eagles haven’t been dominant, but they are 2-0 and have more ways to create offense with Hurts and Barkley.
Philadelphia -4.5 is appealing because Chicago could struggle to consistently generate touchdowns.
The 41.5 total also points toward the under.
Philadelphia has scored 24 points in each of its first two games, while Chicago could employ a conservative approach behind its backup quarterback.
Chicago’s defense and home-field advantage should keep this competitive early.
But Philadelphia has too many advantages offensively.
Hurts gives the Eagles the better quarterback, Barkley has an excellent matchup against Chicago’s run defense, and Philadelphia’s pass rush should create problems once the Bears fall into obvious passing situations.
Expect the Eagles to gradually take control in the second half.
