The Buffalo Bills’ pass-rusher Von Miller recently said that the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson deserved to be the highest-paid player in the NFL. According to Miller, Jackson has earned a record-breaking contract extension as he goes above and beyond to win games. Check out the top football odds.
“And that’s why he should be the highest-paid player in the NFL, and that’s why he should have the biggest contract out of all the quarterbacks,” Miller said. “He’s done everything he can possibly do to put himself in a great situation for that.”
After turning down the Ravens’ extension offer before the start of the regular season, Jackson is now playing under his fifth-year option. Contract talks between them have been put on hold until after the season.
“Lamar is as dynamic as it gets,” Miller said. “Early on in his career, they tried to say he was just a runner. He has done nothing but prove that he’s the total package.”
Jackson rejected an offer worth about $250 million, as per ESPN. Baltimore offered Jackson a six-year deal with a higher average salary and more money guaranteed than the Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Denver Broncos’ Russell Wilson’s contracts.
Murray’s contract is worth $46,1 million per season with $189,5 million guaranteed, while Wilson receives $48,5 million per season with $161 million guaranteed.
Adam Schefter of ESPN said that Jackson wanted a contract with a full guarantee, similar to Deshaun Watson’s record-breaking $230 million contract.
Currently, Jackson is only guaranteed to receive a $23,16 million base salary this season after rejecting the extension.
“Hats off to him, He’s handled it with respect. He’s really put it off to the side and not make it a distraction with his teammates,” Miller said. “He’s done everything the right way. He’s not holding out and letting it bleed all to the media.”
According to ESPN, Jackson is the only player since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 to rank in the top five in rushing yards and touchdown passes during the first three weeks of an NFL season. He has a record of 243 rushing yards and 10 touchdown passes.
