Top 5 Running Backs in the 2017 NFL Draft!

Top 5 Running Backs in the 2017 NFL Draft!
Publish Date: 02/21/2017
Fact checked by: Simon Briffa

We continue our series today looking at the top 5 Running Backs in this year’s draft. Make sure to check out our QB and WR rankings also.

1). Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 230.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.

Fournette has all the trademarks of a franchise running back. He can run over you, and he can make a move and get around you. He had an ankle injury that sidelined him for part of last year, but this is still a young man that averaged over 5.5 yards per attempt. He was compared coming out of high school to Adrian Peterson, and that seemed a little far-fetched at the time, but that comparison doesn’t seem as crazy anymore.

2). Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford
Height: 6-1. Weight: 200.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.

The concern with McCaffrey is that he is not built to be an every-down running back. But, what makes McCafrey worth the risk is he has a tremendous burst to break into the open field. Combine that with great vision and cutting ability, and you have a complete running back who’s acceleration and burst is second to none. He is also a very patient runner who will wait for his blockers to create an opening. I think that McCafrey will be a big-time player in the NFL.

3).  Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee
Height: 5-10. Weight: 215.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.

Kamara is a fast slasher who is solidly built and can run with power. Additionally, Kamara is a great receiver with great hands and route-running, his route running is so good that he could be used in the slot as a receiver also. He also is a big-time returner on punts and kickoffs.Kamara is a complete back who can do it all.

4). Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 203.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.

I know I am crazy for ranking Cook this low, but I have heard from several sources who have confirmed for me that Cook has big character concern. Let’s just say the people around him are not the highest quality of individuals, and I have heard multiple reports that he has a problem with drinking. If these concerns persist, I could see him falling out of the first round altogether. Cook as a player is nothing short of great, he has unteachable explosion and speed and can do it all on a Football field. Without the off-field concerns, I would rank him higher, but those concerns are troubling to me, and if they are troubling to me they have to be to any team that would draft him.

5). D’Onta Foreman, RB, Texas
Height: 6-1. Weight: 249.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.

The last two seasons Foreman has averaged over 6 yards per carry. The only drawback with Foreman is that he doesn’t catch the ball very well at all and that could limit how high he goes.
