Vikings/Eagles Preview
The Eagles are leading Philadelphia 10-7 (3-0 in playoffs). In Week 6, 2019, the teams met again in Minneapolis. The Vikings won 38-20. Kirk Cousins threw 333 yards and scored four touchdowns. Stefon Diggs (now with Buffalo) caught seven passes for 167 yards and three scores. Carson Wentz (now in Washington) threw 306 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles.
These clubs finished second in each division last season. However, I expect them to win their respective divisions this year, especially the Eagles, since the Dallas Cowboys have lost their starting quarterback Dak Preston for six weeks because of injury.
In the six previous meetings, the underdog was 5-1 in favor of the spread.
The Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers 23-7 in Week 1. This was a great win for Kevin O’Connell’s head coaching debut. Cousins threw for 277 yards and two scores. Justin Jefferson caught nine passes, 184 yards, and two scores. Jefferson may be the best receiver in the league right now.
Two off-season additions to the defense made great debuts. Jordan Hicks had 14 tackles and a forced fumble, while Za’Darius Smith had one. Rookie safety Lewis Cine (the team’s first-round pick from Georgia) could not play due to a knee injury. He is now questionable for Week 2. In their 16 previous Monday games, the Vikings have gone 4-12 ATS

The Eagles led the Lions in Detroit 38-21 early in the fourth quarter last week but made things interesting for themselves before holding on 38-35. Philadelphia sealed it on QB Jalen Hurts’ sneak that converted a fourth-and-1 from the Detroit 40 with 50 seconds left. Hurts threw for 243 yards and rushed 17 times for 90 yards and a score. Tailback Miles Sanders had 96 yards and a TD on the ground. The Eagles led the NFL in rushing last year at 159.7 yards per game and currently are third at 216.0 ypg.
Receiver AJ Brown, acquired during the draft from Tennessee, paid immediate dividends with ten catches for 155 yards. Fellow wideout and former Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith, who had a very good rookie 2021 season, didn’t have a single catch. Pass-rusher Derek Barnett tore his ACL in the win and is done for the year. The Eagles are 3-0-1 ATS in their past four as home favourites.
This looks to be a great matchup, and I am going with a small money line upset as I think the Vikings are a slightly better team than the Eagles as of right now.
