The Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears enter their Week 2 NFC North matchup with 1-0 records after producing two of the NFL’s most impressive offensive performances during opening weekend.
Chicago defeated Carolina 59-37 behind a dominant rushing attack and an explosive performance from Caleb Williams. The Bears accumulated 552 total yards, rushed for 291 yards and scored six touchdowns on the ground.
D’Andre Swift led the way with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. Kyle Monangai added 100 yards and a score, while Williams contributed 65 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Williams also surpassed 300 total yards as Ben Johnson’s offense demonstrated the versatility and big-play ability that Chicago expected when it selected the quarterback first overall in 2024.
Minnesota defeated Green Bay 39-22, but that victory came with significant personnel losses.
Starting quarterback Kyler Murray entered the concussion protocol after taking a hit during a first-quarter scramble. Murray is not expected to play against Chicago, meaning veteran Carson Wentz should make his 100th career start.
Wentz was excellent in relief against Green Bay. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns, helping Minnesota erase a 22-10 deficit by leading four consecutive touchdown drives.
The Vikings will also be without running back Jordan Mason, who underwent surgery to repair a fractured thumb. Mason rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown against Green Bay but has been placed on injured reserve.
Minnesota still possesses enough talent to make this a competitive divisional game.
Justin Jefferson remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous receivers. He caught two touchdowns against Green Bay and developed an immediate connection with Wentz. T.J. Hockenson also caught an important touchdown during Minnesota’s comeback.
Wentz does not provide Murray’s mobility, but he brings extensive starting experience and understands how to attack defenses from the pocket. Kevin O’Connell can help him with play-action passes, quick throws and formations designed to create favorable opportunities for Jefferson.
Minnesota’s defense may provide the most important challenge for Chicago. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores uses pressure from multiple positions and attempts to create confusion before the snap.
The Vikings recorded four sacks and forced two turnovers against Green Bay. They must produce similar pressure against Williams without allowing him to escape the pocket and create explosive rushing plays.
Kalshi displayed Chicago’s outright-winner contract at approximately 56¢, representing an implied probability near 56%. Polymarket placed Chicago’s probability higher, with its purchase price available near 60¢ when the markets were reviewed.
Because a lower purchase price is preferable when comparing contracts tied to the same outcome, Kalshi offered the more favorable displayed price for a Chicago victory.
Minnesota’s victory over Green Bay demonstrated the depth and resilience of O’Connell’s roster. Wentz played extremely well after replacing Murray, and Jefferson gives the Vikings an offensive player capable of changing the game on any possession.
However, Minnesota’s injury situation creates a difficult challenge on the road. The Vikings are expected to start their backup quarterback and will be without a running back who appeared prepared for a significant role.
Chicago enters the matchup with greater offensive continuity. Williams is healthy, Swift is expected to play despite being limited early in the week, and Rome Odunze is no longer listed on the injury report.
The point-spread market presents a more difficult decision. Polymarket displayed Minnesota +4.5 at approximately 51¢, while Kalshi priced the same general outcome near 52¢ when the markets were reviewed.
Polymarket offered the lower displayed purchase price for Minnesota to remain within the spread. Participants should confirm the number and contract price before purchasing because both can change before kickoff.
Chicago deserves to be favored after scoring 59 points, but several factors support Minnesota’s ability to keep the game close.
The Bears allowed Carolina to accumulate 478 total yards and score 37 points. Chicago’s offense was outstanding, but its defense remains vulnerable to explosive plays and sustained drives.
Minnesota is considerably more talented than Carolina. Jefferson can challenge Chicago’s secondary at every level, while Hockenson provides Wentz with a dependable option in the middle of the field.
Wentz also proved that he can operate O’Connell’s offense. He did not simply protect a lead against Green Bay. He entered with Minnesota trailing and directed four consecutive touchdown drives.
Chicago’s offensive line also enters the matchup with injury concerns. Right tackle Darnell Wright missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury, while Ozzy Trapilo was limited. Those concerns could become important against Flores’ pressure-heavy defense.
Minnesota’s injuries make Chicago the more reliable outright-winner prediction. The Bears have their starting quarterback, a deeper healthy backfield and the advantage of playing at Soldier Field.
The Vikings should still remain competitive. Wentz demonstrated that he can operate O’Connell’s offense, and Chicago’s defensive performance against Carolina exposed weaknesses that Jefferson and Hockenson can exploit.
Expect Minnesota to pressure Williams, create several negative plays and remain within one possession. Chicago’s rushing attack and Williams’ ability to escape pressure should ultimately produce the decisive fourth-quarter drive, allowing the Bears to win without covering the 4.5-point spread.
