Chargers vs Chiefs Preview
When they host the AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs hope to get off to an impressive 2-0 start on Thursday Night Football. After having its streak of victories in Week 2 ended at four last year, Kansas City began the 2022 NFL campaign with an impressive offensive performance. They defeated Arizona 44-21 on Sunday. Los Angeles won 24-19 against Las Vegas to open the campaign. These are two of the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, and this is the biggest week two matchup out there.
Kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium will take place at 8:15 p.m.
The Chiefs have been tough on the Chargers in the past, but that has been changing as of late. The Chargers split the last four matchups and won both in Kansas City while losing both at home. Justin Herbert played a major role in those four games. He threw for 1,130 yards and threw ten touchdown passes. He also ran for three scores.
The 24-year-old signal-caller was particularly effective in the two Arrowhead wins. He racked up 583 yards passing yards, seven TD throws and no interceptions. Although Herbert’s debut in 2022 was not as impressive as Patrick Mahomes’s, it was still impressive. The Chargers will need a healthy Keenan Allen to have a shot in this one, and the offense will have to be more productive than it was in the fourth quarter against Vegas on Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes has done well in seven career Los Angeles meetings. He threw for 1,827 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions while leading Kansas City to five wins. He has also been outstanding in September, throwing 46 touchdown passes and just three picks in 14 games. Twelve of those being wins. Mahomes has thrown at least three TDs in every one of the 14 games, except two.
In Week 1, Mahomes was strong, throwing five touchdown passes and not allowing an interception.
This game seems to be a toss up and a 3.5 point spread could climb higher if star WR Keenan Allen can’t play on Thursday night. I am going with the Chiefs to cover the spread here as Mahomes has been Mr September during the first four years of his career and that will continue on Thursday Night.
