Jaguars vs Jets Preview
In an AFC showdown, the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-7-1 ATS) and 8-6 O/U take on the New York Jets (7-7 ATS, 6-6 O/U, 8-6 O/U) on Thursday night. The Jaguars beat the Cowboys in overtime last week. The Jets want to rebound after a disappointing loss at home by the Lions. New York beat Jacksonville 26-21 last season. The Jaguars have a legitimate shot at winning the AFC South, and the Jets still have an outside shot at a Wild Card playoff berth.
The Jacksonville Jaguars want a third consecutive win. The Jags were trailing 21-7 at halftime but rallied to win overtime and defeat the Cowboys 40-34 last week. This was a game that saw the Jags being called four-point dogs. The improved offense has made Jacksonville more competitive in recent weeks. In the last month, they have won against the Ravens and on the road and against the Titans. The Jags have covered spreads in all but one of their four previous games.
Trevor Lawrence continues his brilliance. The 23-year-old QB has surpassed 300 passing yards in three of his four previous games, including 318 last week. The Clemson product has made significant progress since his rookie season. Lawrence has accumulated a remarkable 3520 yards passing and a 24-to7 TD-INT ratio for the season. Although he is currently in question with a toe injury, he has been able to play through it over the past few weeks.
Travis Etienne ran for 103 yards last Thursday and has now surpassed 100 rushing yards on four occasions. On 4.5 yards per run, Etienne has rushed for 917 yards. Christian Kirk has accumulated 17 receptions over his three previous performances. With 966 receiving yards, the 26-year-old WR leads the team. Jacksonville’s offense is performing well, scoring at least 28 points in their last four matches.
Recent struggles have been evident in the Jaguars’ defense. They gave up 40 points earlier this month against the Lions and gave up 397 yards last Week. They are vulnerable to the pass. They gave up 256 yards passing last week and were ranked 29th in pass defense and 16th for run defense. Jacksonville’s average score is 23.9 points which ranks them 12th. They concede an average of 23.4 points per game, which places them 21st in the NFL.

New York Jets Betting Tips
The playoff hopes of the New York Jets have been shattered. The Jets were 7-4 at one time and have now lost three consecutive games because of a lackluster offense. The Bills and Vikings defeated New York. They were also two-point favorites against the Lions in a narrow home loss of 20-17. With three games remaining, they are currently one game back from a Wildcard spot. This is their last home game of the season.
After three weeks of being on the bench, Zach Wilson was back under center because of Mike White’s injured ribs. Wilson is a great deep passer, but was inconsistent at times. He finished with 317 yards passing on a 51% completion rate. Wilson, a young quarterback, is having a disappointing year with 1596 passing yards and an average 6:6 TD-INT ratio.
Breece Hall, the Jets’ leading rusher, is still on the IR. Michael Carter had only four carries last week for 15 yards rushing. He now has 390 yards on the season. Recent carries have been dominated by Zonovan Knight. On an average of 4.3 yards per rush, the 21-year-old RB has 253 rushing yards. Garrett Wilson is continuing to shine. In his last four games, the rookie WR surpassed 90 receiving yards, including 98 last week. Wilson has 966 yards receiving this year. NY’s offense has struggled to get going, scoring 22 points or less in three consecutive games.
The Jets’ defense is still on point. In back-to-back games against the Bills and Lions, they surrendered only 20 points. They held off the Lions but surrendered a big play in the final quarter and lost. The Jets Pass defense ranks fourth, while the rush defense ranks 11th. New York has averaged 20.1 points thisyear, which places them 23rd. They limit their opponents to 18.8 points, which is fifth in the NFL.
The Jaguars are currently in a rhythm and have shown improvement in recent games. They have won three of their four previous games, including two victories over strong opponents. They defeated the Titans two weeks ago and then rallied to win in OT against Dallas last week. The Jets are falling. After a loss at home against Detroit, they have now lost three straight games.
The Jacksonville offense continues its brilliance. Trever Lawrence has helped the Jaguars rise to the top 10 in passing offense. Although the Jets are a strong defense, they allowed 359 yards passing against the Lions. Trevor Lawrence took advantage of the Cowboys’ pass defense for 318 yards. The Jets will likely again have Zach Wilson as their quarterback since Mike White has been injured. Wilson has not lived up to expectations. His season completion rate is 55%. The Jags have won some big games on the road this season, and since Zach Wilson is under center for the Jets, I will take the Jaguars and give the -1.5.
