Falcons vs Panthers Preview
As week 10 of the NFL season begins, it’s a battle between teams from the NFC South. The primetime match will be held in the Tar Heel State. The Atlanta Falcons are on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football. Atlanta lost 20-17 to the Chargers at home in their previous game and was a 2.5-point underdog on that Sunday afternoon. Carolina lost 42-21 to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon. The game was not as close as it seemed. Cincinnati easily covered the seven-point line. The Falcons have a 35-20 lead in the regular season series between them. They also hold the previous two meetings. This includes a 37-34 overtime victory at home in the season’s first meeting on October 30.
The Falcons need a win to keep pace in the NFC South and the Panthers need a win or their playoff hopes will be diminished to the point of no return.
The Falcons are currently at 4-5, tied for first place in the NFC South with Tampa Bay. However, the Buccaneers won their first head-tohead meeting to win the tiebreaker. Atlanta fell to Los Angeles. Atlanta led 17-14 after three quarters. The Falcons out gained the Chargers 336-315 in total offense, and they won time possession by a 31-49 to 28:11 margin. Each team had 19 first downs, and each team turned over the ball twice.
The Falcons struggle to throw the ball on offense averaging just over 150 yards per game. They are also 4th in rush offense, averaging 162.9 yards per game. Atlanta is 9 ninth in league scoring offense, averaging 24.1 points per match. They are 26 th league-wide in allowing 25 points per game. Marcus Mariota has thrown 10 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. He has been sacked 21 times. Cordarrelle Patterson is the second-ranked runner on the ground, with 71 carries and 384 yards. He also has five scores for the year. Caleb Huntley (64) and Tyler Allgaier (423 yards, TD), are also included in the mix. Rookie Drake London is the leader of the team with 33 receptions, 369 yards, and two touchdowns. Kyle Pitts (23 receptions for 285 yards and two TD), and Olamide Zaccheaus (22.2 grabs for 331 yards and two TD) are both the other players with more receiving yards than 150. Younghoe Koo converted all 22 extra points and 15 out of 19 field goal attempts with a long 54.
As of Monday’s injury report, the Falcons have a few walking wounded. Center Matt Hennessey (knee), Feleipe Franks (calf), safety Erik Harris and A.J. Terrell (hamstring) all didn’t practice Monday. Carolina Panthers Betting Tips
Carolina was the victim of a whipping Sunday afternoon when they were defeated by Cincinnati. The Panthers are now at 2-7 for the season, and they remain in the basement of the NFC South standings. After a 28-point second-quarter Bengals explosion, Carolina was down 35-0 at halftime. They never recovered. The Panthers were outgained 464-228 in total offense. They gave up 30 first downs, recorded 13 and lost the time possession 39:21 to 19:39. Additionally, they committed three turnovers without recording a takeaway. All of this added up to a devastating loss.
The Panthers are currently at week 10 and 28 in the league’s passing offense. They average 184.6 yards per game through the air, while 22 nd run rushing offense for 105.3 yards each contest. Carolina is 23 rd league in scoring offense with an average of 19.9 points per match while they are 29 the league in scoring defense, allowing 25.3 points each contest. Baker Mayfield completed 98 of 173 passes, gaining 1,117 yards and six touchdowns. He also had four interceptions. PJ Walker was 53 of 90 for 623 yards with three touchdowns, three interceptions and 25 rushing yards. Jacob Eason was three out of five for 59 yards as well as an interception. Sam Darnold has been inactive this season due to an ankle injury suffered in the preseason finale. Walker will be making his fifth consecutive start at this location. In the ground game, the team’s former Christian McCaffrey leader is he has run 85 times for 393 yards and two scores. In his absence, Chuba Hubbard (15 carries for 97 yards, TD), and D’Onta Foreman (60 carries for 296 yards, three TD), have assumed those duties. DJ Moore is the leader in the passing game with 35 grabs, 449 yards, and three touchdowns. McCaffrey had 33 receptions for 277 yard plus a score. Robby Anderson (13 grabs, 206 yards, touchdown) and Terrace Marshall (13 grabs), are the only other players to have more than 200 receiving yards. Eddy Piniero is 15-16 on extra points, and 14-16 on field goal attempts with an average of 54 yards.
Carolina’s injury list was extensive from Monday’s practice walkthrough. Keep an eye out for updates over the next few days to see who might be missing the game. Laviska Shenault Jr., Rashard Higgins (illness), safety Juston Birris (concussion), and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis(back) were all absent from practice. Each of the following was limited Monday: Chuba Hubbard, running back (ankle), Frankie Luvu, defensive tackle Derrick Brown (illness), and Brian Burns (shoulder).
The Falcons are the better team as the panthers struggle to find any identity. The Falcons still are tied for first and need a win here in the worst way. Marcus Mariota has been pedestrian this season and that makes him world’s better than what the panther have at this moment. The Panthers are in disarray and the Falcons are getting the most out of their abilities. The Falcons get revenge here by double-digits.
