The Chargers are 4-2, but it doesn’t feel like it right now. Justin Herbert has been pedestrian, this team has more of a head coaching issue than anything else.
9) New England Patriots
The patriots looked dead early in the season until the arrival of Bailey Zappe after Mac Jones was injured. If they leave Zappe in charge the Patriots could make a playoff run. This team has no business being in the top ten but they don’t call Belichick the GOAT for anything.
8) New York Jets
The Jets went to Green bay and dominated the Packers 27-10 on Sunday. Sauce Gardner and Breece Hall may be the top two rookies in the NFL this season, and the Jets look like a team that is turning the corner.
7) Dallas Cowboys
Cooper Rush has done a great job keeping the Cowboys’ train on track, but now it’s time for Dak Prescott to reclaim his quarterback spot. Even with Dak the question has to be, do the Cowboys have the weapons to be a playoff force?
6) New York Giants
As Gomer Pyle used to say, Suprise, Suprise! The New York Giants are playing well under new head coach Brian Daboll and they deserve this ranking. Daniel Jones has been just good enough and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has been excellent at drawing up the correct game plans to give the Giants a chance to win games.
5) Cincinnati Bengals
Inept coaching has led to three close losses that never should have happened. Now we get to the portion of the season where Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense take over the show. The loss of D.J. Reader was really felt against a run-heavy Saints offense but overall, the defense has been very good this season.
4) Minnesota Vikings
It’s time to take the Vikings seriously as they have learned how to close out a game this season. Kirk Cousins is making clutch throws and Dalvin Cook is getting it done on the ground. The Vikings look poised to run away with the NFC North.
