NFL Power Rankings: Week 4

It’s been a weird three weeks. This was the “Week of the Kicker”, and there’s a lot of mediocre football being played thus far. The Raiders are 3-0, and Kirk Cousins leads the NFL in touchdown passes. The Texans, Bucs, and Chargers have the same number of wins as the Dolphins – zero. It’s Bizarro World. 1. Buffalo Bills (3-0; Last week: 2nd)

Result: W vs Chargers 24-16

Josh Allen was mostly awful, throwing two picks and losing a fumble, but it didn’t matter. James Cook (154 rushing yards and a TD) carried the offense, and Allen scored late when it mattered.

2. Seattle Seahawks (2-1; Last week: 1st)

Result: L vs Commanders 33-31

The good: Darnold threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, JSN is unstoppable, and the defense wasn’t all that bad (258 total yards allowed). The bad: the ground game did nothing (44 total rushing yards), Darnold threw two picks, and one of those gave Washington a nine point lead late in the 4th quarter.

3. Denver Broncos (2-1; Last week: 6th)

Result: W vs Rams 30-26

This was a tale of two halves. In the first half, Denver scored zero points. In the second half, they scored 30, and took the lead for good with 47 seconds left. Talanoa Hufanga was the MVP for Denver (1 sack, 3 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, and a pick six).

4. Los Angeles Rams (1-2; Last week: 3rd)

Result: L vs Broncos 30-26

Just a sloppy game for the Rams. The offense put up 482 total yards, but struggled in the second half. They also gave up four sacks, two turnovers, and the team had 13 penalties. They’ll be fine.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0; Last week: 8th)

Result: W vs Dolphins 24-10

Mahomes was as good as ever in this game. Kelce looked 5 years younger. Kenneth Walker had another big game. I have confidence that Spags will get the defense right come playoff time.

6. Cincinnati Bengals (2-1; Last week: 4th)

Result: L vs Steelers 30-27

The defense, which was a bright spot the first two weeks, fell apart in this one. They allowed old man Rodgers to throw three touchdown passes, the Steelers offense to put up over 400 yards with 30 points, and let Jaylen Warren rumble for 176 total yards. Cincy still could’ve at least tied the game late before the Burrow fumble.

7. San Francisco 49ers (3-0; Last week: 9th)

Result: W vs Cardinals 36-30

Despite more injuries piling up – Trent Williams and Mike Evans now – this team wins again. Purdy passed for 297 yards and four TD’s, two to stud tight end George Kittle. Will this team have enough healthy bodies later in the season?

8. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1; Last week: 5th)

Result: L vs Bears 27-7

Oof. Philly fans gotta be tight right now. Hurts wasn’t entirely to blame for the loss, but he played poorly against Chicago. He only averaged 6.1 yards per attempt, struggling with his accuracy and deep ball. Losing to a third string QB hurts.

9. Detroit Lions (2-1; Last week: 10th)

Result: W vs NY Jets 31-24

The offense dropped 31 points, and the defense almost gave the win away. Up 14 in the fourth, the defense let Geno Smith look like Peyton Manning, and let the Jets get back into the game late. Detroit can’t keep depending on the offense to bail out this putrid defense.

10. Baltimore Ravens (2-1; Last week: 13th)

Result: W vs Cowboys 34-31

After giving future first ballot Hall of Famer Derrick Henry only 16 carries in the loss last week, it was back to the grind this week. Henry toted 26 times and ran for a couple scores. Shout out to kicker Tyler Loop, who hit the 56 yard game winner as time expired.

11. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1; Last week: 15th)

Result: W vs Patriots 35-6

Jacksonville’s offense made a statement after last week’s disappointing display against Denver. The defense had a solid day as well, causing three turnovers and keeping New England out of the end zone.

12. Minnesota Vikings (3-0; Last week: 16th)

Result: W vs Buccaneers 23-16

The offense was horrid against Tampa Bay. They totaled 230 yards, and had just two third down conversions all game. The defense led the way yet again, however. They allowed only 243 yards, forced two turnovers, and got six sacks.

13. Dallas Cowboys (1-2; Last week: 11th)

Result: L vs Ravens 34-31

The offense did well running the ball (fumble aside), but the passing game was flat. Dallas literally let this one slip away after tying the game with seven seconds left in regulation. How do you let Zay Flowers get yards after the catch like that?!

14. Chicago Bears (2-1; Last week: 19th)

Result: W vs Eagles 27-7

No Caleb, no problem! Case Keenum had an excellent game. He accounted for three total touchdowns, and completed over 70% of his passes. This was his first start since December 2023.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1; Last week: 23rd)

Result: W vs Bengals 30-27

Rodgers wasn’t great in this game (completed under 56% of his passes and threw an interception), but he did throw for almost 300 yards and tossed three touchdown passes. Jaylen Warren was huge in this one, going for 127 yards on the ground.

16. New England Patriots (1-2; Last week: 7th)

Result: L vs Jaguars 35-6

What has happened to Drake Maye? The talk that last season’s success was due to an easy schedule is only getting louder by the turnover. Maye now leads the NFL in turnovers, and it’s starting to get really fugly. Someone call a doctor – Drake has the yips!

17. Indianapolis Colts (1-2; Last week: 21st)

Result: W vs Texans 19-17

On a day where the offense struggled to move the ball, special teams won the day. Kicker Spencer Shrader overcame an early groin injury to make all four of his field-goal attempts, including the 53 yard game winner.

18. New Orleans Saints (1-2; Last week: 17th)

Result: L vs Raiders 35-27

Tyler Shough had another good game, and has looked legit thus far. While he threw four touchdown passes, he also turned the ball over three times. Travis Etienne Jr. went down with a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for a few weeks.

19. Houston Texans (0-3; Last week: 12th)

Result: L vs Colts 19-17

The offense just stinks. Every week it’s something. Horrible offensive line play, downright mediocre passing game, below average ground game, or questionable coaching decisions. Take your pick! In this one, you got all four. At least the defense looked good. This team is in major trouble.

20. Las Vegas Raiders (3-0; Last week: 25th)

Result: W vs Saints 35-27

The Raiders are 3-0 for the first time since 2021. “Captain” Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes again, and is tied for the league lead in TD passes with nine. The defense came up big in the fourth quarter, forcing two turnovers and holding the Saints scoreless.

21. New York Giants (2-1; Last week: 24th)

Result: W vs Titans 12-7

New York’s offense was worse than Tennessee’s in this one. The Giants acquired J.J. McCarthy from Minnesota, and if Jameis Winston continues being ass, McCarthy will be on the field sooner than later. Brian Burns went down with a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

22. Green Bay Packers (1-2; Last week: 14th)

Result: L vs Falcons 35-14

What an embarrassing display on a national broadcast. The defense couldn’t stop a high school varsity team from running all over them. The offensive line is in shambles, the rushing attack is the worst in the league, and Love hasn’t been quite right thus far.

23. Carolina Panthers (1-2; Last week: 22nd)

Result: L vs Browns 21-18

The defense played well, holding Cleveland to 10 points until the middle of the fourth quarter. The offense couldn’t do much for most of the day, and even had two chances with under two minutes in regulation, but failed to take advantage. Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald went 4 for 4, including a 53 yarder.

24. Washington Commanders (1-2; Last week: 27th)

Result: W vs Seahawks 33-31

Washington wasn’t overly impressive, but they got the win. The rushing attack averaged just 2.6 yards per carry, but backup QB Marcus Mariota threw three touchdown passes. This team took advantage of two interceptions thrown in the 2nd half by Sam Darnold.

25. Cleveland Browns (2-1; Last week: 28th)

Result: W vs Panthers 21-18

Deshaun Watson has looked as good as he has in a Browns uniform thus far this season – which isn’t saying much. The defense and the offense are average at best to this point. A win is a win though!

26. Los Angeles Chargers (0-3; Last week: 18th)

Result: L vs Bills 24-16

Another game, another disappointing performance by Justin Herbert. He completed just under 59% of his passes and threw an interception in the 4th quarter that led to Buffalo’s first touchdown of their comeback.

27. Atlanta Falcons (1-2; Last week: 30th)

Result: W vs Packers 35-14

Bijan had almost 200 yards rushing with a couple of touchdowns. Drake London had a career game (194 receiving yards on nine receptions). Michael Penix Jr. had a rough first quarter (2 for 7 with a pick), but got more comfortable as the game went on.

28. New York Jets (1-2; Last week: 26th)

Result: L vs Lions 31-24

Close, but no cigar. Geno Smith was on point in this one, completing 84% of his passes and almost leading this team to an upset in Detroit. Garrett Wilson and rookie Kenyon Sadiq each had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. Keep an eye on the status of Breece Hall, who left the game with an injury.

29. Arizona Cardinals (1-2; Last week: 29th)

Result: L vs 49ers 36-30

Arizona lost the game, but there are some positives to build on. Brissett scored three total touchdowns, Jeremiah Love had his best game as a pro (99 total yards and his first receiving touchdown), and this team hung around with a tough 49ers squad.

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3; Last week: 20th)

Result: L vs Vikings 23-16

This team is now 0-3, and Baker Mayfield is expected to miss a few weeks with a dislocated thumb. The defense is going to have to carry the team until Baker comes back.

31. Tennessee Titans (0-3; Last week: 31st)

Result: L vs Giants 12-7

The defense played well, and the offense sucked. Again. If you hold a team to field goals, that’s normally a good way to win some games. In this week’s “Toilet Bowl”, the Giants just were “better”.

32. Miami Dolphins (0-3; Last week: 32nd)

Result: L vs Chiefs 24-10

Just when ya thought things couldn’t get any worse…De’Von Achane is going to miss the rest of this season due to a torn ACL. Malik Willis led the team in rushing, but struggled again as a passer.
