We’ve reached the midway point of the season, and the Trade Deadline has passed! Several teams made big moves for the stretch run, so let’s dive into the NFL Power Rankings Week 10!
Let’s touch on some of the more interesting trades at the Deadline:
Philadelphia needed to make a move like this. Their defense has been mediocre at getting to the quarterback (only 16 sacks this season). Losing key players in the off-season and due to injury depleted the depth up front. Phillips has injury concerns, but is a worthwhile rental – his contract expires after the season. Miami begins their long rebuild, offloading a player with an expiring contract that was likely leaving in free agency anyway, netting a third rounder in next year’s NFL Draft.
Logan Wilson has lost some of his luster recently, but he is a former Pro Bowler who gives Dallas’ awful defense a boost. Wilson was benched in Cincinnati despite their defense being the worst in the NFL, making him expendable. Trading a seventh round pick for a plug-and-play defensive leader is a worthwhile gamble for Dallas, even if it doesn’t really move the needle this year.
Dealing with injuries at wide receiver (including Travis Hunter on injured reserve), Jacksonville needed to add quality depth at the position. Jakobi Meyers is looking for a new contract and hasn’t been particularly great this season, but he’s a perfect fit for the Jaguars. Meyers has experience on the outside and in the slot. Las Vegas getting fourth and six round Draft picks for a guy who had one foot out the door is solid.
Blockbuster alert! With their hot start (top seed in the AFC), Indy is clearly all-in on going for a title, paying a hefty price for Sauce. The former All-Pro has arguably been the top coverage cornerback in the NFL over the last three seasons, and fits a big need on the outside. Adonai Mitchell is a nice piece, but getting two first round picks was worth moving a stud like Gardner. Jets GM Darren Mougey is kick-starting this rebuild with a bold trade at the Deadline.
Another shocker! Dallas adds another stud to the interior of their defensive line, doubling down after acquiring Kenny Clark in the Micah Parsons trade. Williams is going to get a fat contract in Dallas, and will be a key building block up front moving forward. New York is stocking up on early round Draft picks, really committing to the rebuild with this and the Sauce trades. Can Aaron Glenn have the same luck Detroit had when they embarked on their rebuild under Dan Campbell?Â
With Joe Alt going on injured reserve and out for the rest of the year, the Chargers had to add a tackle at the Deadline. Trevor Penning has been a disappointment as a starting offensive tackle in New Orleans, but did play better at guard. Penning will get every opportunity to lock down one of the empty tackle spots in L.A.
