After Mac Jones’ injury in Sunday’s 37-26 loss against the Baltimore Ravens, the New England Patriots will likely be without their starting quarterback for some time.
Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and NFL Network Insiders Tom Pelissero reported that Jones would likely sustained a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s game and would miss some action. Check out the top football odds.
Jones will undergo an MRI scan Monday. Rapoport stated that Jones almost certainly will be added to the injured reserve if the scan confirms Jones’ sprain.
The team lost to a strong Baltimore team, but Jones and the Patriots offense looked to be improved for most of the game..
Jones was injured during an interception by the Pats on one of their final offensive plays. Jones then hopped to the sidelines, unable to put any weight on his injured leg. The injured player was seen in pain and needed assistance to climb the stairs to the locker area.
Jones suffered an injury late in the game for the second consecutive week. Jones suffered back spasms after the Patriots’ loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Veteran Brian Hoyer is the Patriots’ top backup, with rookie Bailey Zappe the No. 3 option. I would assume we will see Hoyer against Green Bay next week. Still, Zappe is an intriguing option as he had a solid preseason and a spectacular senior season at Western Kentucky. Hoyer is a steady, reliable backup, but the Patriots will be in trouble if he is the starter for any extended period.
Even with Mac Jones, the Patriots looked like a long shot to make the playoffs, and that long shot may have just disappeared with Mac Jones’s injury. If any coach could fix this, it would be Bill Belichick, but the season looks close to lost for the Patriots.
