Contrary to popular belief, firing the head coach isn’t always the answer when a team struggles. Fresh ideas and approaches can be beneficial, yet stability carries a lot of weight.
Now at 1–5, the second-worst team in the league, the notion of maintaining the status quo feels like a cop-out. The Browns’ offense is going under and dragging its once-lauded defense to the bottom of Lake Erie with it. Kevin Stefanski may have steadied the ship once, but now it seems he’s steering it into the rocks. Still, the question at hand is: what’s best for the team?
In 2020, Kevin Stefanski took the reins of a team with a ton of talent and nothing to show for it. He used a calm and consistent approach, organized talented players into a winning team, and led the Browns to their first playoff win since the 1994 season. His efforts won Stefanski the NFL Coach of the Year award. He would win the award again in 2023 after the team secured a playoff spot.
After a playoff berth in 2023, the Browns collapsed in 2024 with a 3–14 record. Worlds away from a 2023 11-6 record. Now, midway through 2025, Stefanski looks less like a two-time Coach of the Year and more like a liability. His questionable 4th quarter decisions set the team up for failure in London, and his offensive scheme against the tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense felt detached from reality.
The quarterback situation, paired with two first-round draft picks, seems to signal another rebuild is in our future. But should the shake-up include Stefanski? Consider a few pros and cons.
PROS
CONS
The city of Cleveland has arguably the most devoted fan base in all of professional sports—bleeding orange and brown all day, every day. Whatever the next move is, it won’t change that.
As always, the powers that be will consult their magic eight-ball and proceed accordingly. But the question isn’t just whether Stefanski finishes the season or moves on to greener turf. It’s bigger than that.
When does an identity finally emerge? When does the endless rebuild end?
We’ve been on this ride for 26 years. Pick a damn lane.
