On Friday, the Cleveland Browns added another speedy wide receiver to their team by signing free agent Marquise Goodwin to a one-year deal.
The news comes shortly after Browns signed a deal with wide receiver Elijah Moore, taking in the player in a trade with the New York Jets.
After earning over 27 passes, 387 yards and four touchdowns with the Seattle Seahawks last season, Goodwin was placed on the injured reserve in December due to severe shoulder and wrist injuries.
Goodwin spent two days before signing with the Browns, discussing matters with his new team and likely negotiating the terms of their contract.
According to analysts, Goodwin provides vital depth to the Browns’ wide receiver roles, complimenting quarterback Deshaun Watson and fellow wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Throughout his nine-season tenure in the NFL, Goodwin has demonstrated his speed and agility as his standout qualities, which are further evidenced by his track Olympics background.
He reached some of his highest peaks with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, ending his Niners run with 56 catches over 962 yards and two total scores.
Later, he would join brief stints with the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears before landing on the Seahawks. Though analysts have noted Goodwin’s record with the team on a week-by-week basis, the wide receiver made significant contributions in his time with the Seahawks.
His synergy with receivers Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and tight end Noah Fant is especially notable. Goodwin helped score five catches and one touchdown in last season’s Week 14 game against the Carolina Panthers, along with two touchdowns in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Analysts observed that Goodwin is unlikely to reach the same peaks he had in his time with the Niners. However, his openness to teamwork and skills made him a notable pickup for the Browns, hinting at the team’s eagerness for a more offensive approach in the season.
