Following Thursday Night Football’s 27-22 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers star quarterback Tom Brady’s performance is not likely to improve anytime soon. In eight games, the seven-time Super Bowl champion has the poorest start of his career, with the Bucs two games short of a winning season record (3-5).
Brady and the Bucs lost their third straight game, the first time since 2002 that the 45-year-old quarterback had fallen in three consecutive games. It also marked the first time Brady had lost five out of six games. As if that weren’t terrible enough, Brady set an all-time record for the most-sacked quarterback in the NFL.
Despite his reputation as a fierce competitor, the QB looks and sounds like he’s in a state of shock. After the game, Brady sat at his locker for a long time, according to The Athletic. Then he made his perfunctory appearance at the podium for a press conference.
“Losing—we’re playing to win. Losing is no fun for any of us. We put a lot into it, and we’re just coming up short,” Brady said Thursday night in response to a question about the career frustrations he experienced.
“We’ve struggled at pretty much everything. Struggled in the red area, struggled on third down, struggled in the run game, two-point plays, short yardage, backed up, start of the first quarter, start of the third quarter. Not very good offensive football.”
Brady has recorded nine losing seasons throughout his career. Having started his first career in Week 3 of the 2001 season, he has played in the NFL for 364 weeks of the “football year.” As of Thursday, Brady had a losing record for just 2.2% of his career, further demonstrating his remarkable career accomplishments.
This is the first time Brady has slipped two games under .500 in a season.
