Week 9 of the 2022 NFL season was much like the previous eight weeks, which means it was surprising. The Packers still can’t score, The Jets beat the Bills, Tom Brady leads a comeback and the Vikings are this season’s cardiac kids. This has been a crazy season to bet on NFL games and the football odds always seem to be against you when betting.
Patrick Mahomes is known as one of the best quarterbacks in the game because of his ability to make throws others simply can’t. On Sunday night, he saved the Chiefs because his legs made a play on third and seventeen that few others can make. The Titans played the Chiefs tough, with Malik Willis at Quarterback, which meant the Titans were even more one-dimensional than ever before. The Titans proved in this game that they are a serious contender when Ryan Tannehill returns and the way the game went it makes you wonder what would have happened if Tannehill had played.
The Bills were taken down by a Jets defense loaded with studs and a running back by committee that terrorized the Bills defense all day. Josh Allen is now 2-7 in one-score games over the last few years. The Bills may still be the best team in the NFL, but we do know that the Jets are here to stay with an excellent coach and tough-as-nails defense; imagine them with a quality starting quarterback.
Sure the Tampa Bay offense looked lost at sea for most of the game on Sunday, that is, until it mattered most. With the game on the line, Tom Brady led his team to a game-winning touchdown as Tom Brady seems to always do. So just when you thought father time had caught the GOAT, it seems the GOAT broke away from his grasp again. With the Bucs playing in the inept NFC South the road looks clear for another Brady postseason appearance.
After a week or two, you tended to think that Geno Smith was just hot and he would come back to earth; now that he is still on fire halfway through the season, it’s time for fans to come to grips with that fact that Geno Smith has become a quality starting quarterback in the NFL. Michigan State star Kenneth Walker III has been a star over the last five weeks, and the Seahawks are a legit contender.
The Colts look done as a team; they played with no energy in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. The Colts gave up nine sacks and were beaten up in every phase of the game. Sam Ehlinger is the Colts’ quarterback, and he is terrible no matter what the Colts do; they will lose with Sam at the helm; he is not a quality NFL starter and probably not even a quality backup. The Colts were a competitive team for the first four years with Reich, but they are spinning out of control and need a change now.

The Packers offense is so bad that they couldn’t break double-digits against the worst team in the league. The Packers ran 32 plays for 206 yards on their three first-half drives (plus a kneel-down) and inexplicably came away without a point to show. In the second half, Rodgers threw two interceptions in the RedZone and looked off the whole game. The packers’ next three games are against the Cowboys, Titans and Eagles; all have excellent defenses, I think it’s safe to say that the Packers will not make the playoffs this year, and a losing record is staring them right in the face. The Cardiac Vikings strike again as they once again played an uneven four quarters of football on Sunday. But as they always seem to do this season, they were clutch when it mattered. In the closing seconds, Kirk Cousins drove the Vikings down the field to win by a field goal in Washington. To be a serious contender, the Vikings need to play more consistently during games and if they do that, they are capable of making a deep run in the postseason.
