NFL Week 7 Top 10 QB Power Rankings: Number One may surprise you

Publish Date: 10/19/2023
Fact checked by: Mark Lewis

Week 7

10) Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

A calf injury has slowed him down this season, as has poor play calling. He has looked better the last two weeks physically but something is missing from the Bengals offense.

9) Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

It’s been an odd year for Cousins, as Minnesota’s two wins have come when he’s had his worst performances. The big question is how much Justin Jefferson’s absence affects him moving forward. Cousins is a very good quarterback on a mediocre at best team.

8) Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Hurts’ impressive 2022 breakout season has given way to some initial bumps this year; his turnover total has already matched that of last season (8), and his inconsistent play is one reason Philly has struggled at times..

7) C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

Stroud should be at the top of any Offensive Rookie of the Year poll. He endured his first career pick against New Orleans gracefully despite a tough D, making Houston an unexpected lynchpin and leading them through challenging circumstances with his calm leadership. The Texans have found their franchise Quarterback and the Texans are a playoff threat now behind Stroud’s leadership.

6) Brock Purdy, San Fransisco 49ers

Jim Schwartz’s defense helped take Brock Purdy down a few notches in the 49ers’ first loss of the year, though let us not overreact: He remains 10-1 as Kyle Shanahan’s calm point guard, with 23 touchdowns against only five picks over 11 starts in his career.

5) Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

His output may have decreased due to an underwhelming receiving corps, yet the Ravens remain 4-2 and top the AFC North thanks in no small part to him. Even under a more traditional attack style, he leads all quarterbacks in rushing yards (327). If he could get help from his receiving corps he would be higher on this list.

4) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Contrary to his counterpart in Super Bowl LVIII, Patrick Mahomes is off to an unconventionally reckless start this year, often placing the ball into danger more frequently than anticipated. Yet, with an uneven receiving corps, how could anyone doubt him? The Chiefs’ defense is right, and if Mahomes can return to how he played in years past, the Chiefs could find themselves in another Super Bowl.

3) Tua Tagovailoa,Β Miami Dolphins

Tua has been maybe the most explosive Quarterback in the NFL this season; if he can stay away from the injury bug that has plagued him throughout his career, the Dolphins will be a contender.

Tua tied for second in passing grade (94.1) and EPA per play (1.2) among passes thrown 10 yards or further downfield, completing 63.76% for 173 yards and two touchdowns last week.

2) Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

As talented as he and the Bills may be, plays are still being left on the field as he relies too heavily (perhaps too heavily) on Stefon Diggs for production. But let’s be honest – Buffalo’s 4-2 record can largely be credited to his backyard playmaking – his 16 TDs lead all QBs!

1) Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Jared Goff was the most efficient passer in Week 6, completing 68.2% of his passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns to earn a 74.6 passing grade – sixth among quarterbacks – as he created the highest expected points added per play (0.45) in Week 6. Goff has improved dramatically since arriving in Detroit, and the Lions look like a serious Super Bowl contender. He is no longer a system quarterback in Detroit.
