For the past few weeks, the San Francisco 49ers have been the favorite to advance to the Super Bowl out of the NFC. The 49ers have been the team to beat despite losing their starting quarterback on two separate occasions. However, rookie Brock Purdy has shown outstanding leadership and has done more than expected for the offense. This marked his seventh consecutive game with at least two passing touchdowns. Jauan Jennings, Samson Ebukam, and Javon Knlaw were all injured for the 49ers. Jennings was limited to Thursday’s practice due to an ankle injury. Ebukam is listed as day-to-day, and Kinlaw is listed as questionable.
This matchup will be intriguing to see how the 49ers defend, whether on the line or in the secondary. The 49ers have had three sacks, five tackles to loss, one interception and one forced fumble during the postseason. They had 44 sacks, 47 tackles for loss and 20 interceptions in the regular season. Nick Bosa was a defensive star. He earned 18.5 sacks and 41 solo tackles. There were also two forced fumbles. Tashaun Gipson Sr. led the secondary with five interceptions, 43 solo tackles, and eight defended passes. Dre Greenlaw led the team in tackles with 82 solo tackles while also earning two forced fumbles (one interception) and eight defended passes.
The San Francisco 49ers boast a top-caliber offense and a defense that is also high caliber. The 49ers’ offense is very successful, with Purdy under center. Purdy has thrown at least two touchdowns in seven games consecutively and will try to repeat that feat again when the 49ers face the Cowboys. The 49ers defense has been unstoppable, with big tackles, forcing turnovers and three-and-outs. Prescott cannot turn the ball over. McCaffrey and Purdy will be big offensively, while Bosa Sr. and Gipson Sr. will be big defensively. I look for the Cowboys to be able to throw the ball against the 49ers’ secondary, and then we will find out how good Brock Purdy is, as he will have to match the Cowboys score for score. Purdy is good but is he good enough to keep up when he is playing a team that is scoring? The 49ers really have not played anybody as of late that is that good. Take the Cowboys in an upset.
