Every year a team comes out of nowhere to shock everybody. Last year, the Cincinnati Bengals got hot at the right time and advanced to the Super Bowl. Today, we will look at two NFC teams that could surprise and find themselves in the playoffs. Check out the best bookmakers for making future bets on the 2022 NFL season.
You are lying if you speak of Jameis Winston as if he has an interception issue. The former No. 1 overall pick was 5-2 in seven games and threw 14 touchdowns to go with three interceptions. Winston is not a top-five quarterback, but he did some great things last season. He was more comfortable playing within Sean Payton’s system and less gung-ho downfield. He was much more selective when he took deep shots than with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston was on a Bucs team with a below-average offensive line and a defense that was not nearly what it was the following year when Tom Brady arrived.
His wide receiver unit has been restructured. Winston now has weapons all over the field in guys like Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, and Chris Olave. This offense sounds pretty entertaining if you throw Alvin Kamara into it.
This Saints team, even with Payton’s departure, is better than you could have imagined if it stays healthy. The Saints have also strengthened their secondary by signing Tyrann Mathieu, a hometown hero, and then selecting Alontae Tay in the second round 2022 NFL Draft. Is Kevin O’Connell the next Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan? He’s a former Washington assistant whom Jay Gruden had to promote to offensive coordinator back in the day so other teams wouldn’t steal him. He was even given head coach consideration after Gruden was fired, but the franchise chose Ron Rivera instead. ) ‘Connell is a highly thought of coach in NFL circles, and he will get his shot with a team capable of winning right away. Sometimes a good coach can overstay his welcome, which happened with Mike Zimmer in Minnesota; it was time for a change.
The Vikings weren’t a “bad” team in 2021. They went 8-9, and it’s very possible they just needed a breath of fresh air to get it going in the right direction, and O’Connell could be that guy. O’Connell already has a history with quarterback Kirk Cousins. He also possesses one of the best running backs in the league in Dalvin Cook, and Justin Jefferson is a rising star. Throw in the possibility that the Green Bay Packers could regress, and this Vikings team could be better than you expected in 2022. The Vikings can win the NFC North and not just because of the Packers regressing and the Lions and Bears being the Lions and Bears. The Vikings will score points, and in the end, it will all come down to how the defense plays.
