
Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton will likely miss the majority if not all of this season after sustaining a fractured kneecap during Monday’s training.

Since joining the team as the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the 23-year-old talented player has been plagued by injuries. The latest injury is to the same knee as the one that was injured in week one of the 2021 season. However, the offensive tackle from Virginia also sustained a serious chest injury during his rookie season.
Becton missed 18 games because of injury and has been the subject of disgruntled coaching setups due to his poor conditioning. The 360-pounder was still having a positive training camp this year. He was moved from left tackle to right tackle by the franchise.
The Louisville product is not only massive in size and strength, but he has been praised for his agile footwork and rare combination of agility and size. He is a formidable blocker, with his 40-yard sprint of 5.1 seconds at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine.
The Jets will be without him for some time, just as he was poised to return to the starting lineup.
Duane Brown (a veteran tackle) joined training this weekend and could fill in for Becton. The 36-year-old Brown has a lot of experience, having played in five Pro-Bowls as well as two second-team All-Pros. He also appeared in the 2012 first-team All-Pro.
