A new sheriff is in town for the Indiana Hoosiers, and he will get to show off his new toys on offence and defence as the Hoosiers will host Florida International in what should be an ass-kicking!
These odds were updated at 6 am EST on 08/29/24, coming from Draft Kings.
Florida International finished 2023-24 at 4-8 with wins against Maine, North Texas, Connecticut, and Sam Houston. After starting 3-1, they only managed one victory out of eight games playedโthis marks five years since Florida International last won more than four games in a single season!
Indiana finished 3-9 last season and fired longtime coach Tom Allen after seven years at the helm. They lost all but one Big Ten matchup (vs Wisconsin) while scoring victories against Akron (in overtime) and Indiana State (FCS program). Indiana hopes new head coach Curt Cignetti, who led James Madison University to an 11-1 mark last season, can quickly alter Bloomington culture.

I am betting the over because I expect the Hoosiers to score early and often and the Hoosier defense to play well.
Cignetti is an absolute stud, and I’m convinced the Hoosiers will stun opponents early this season under his leadership. They bolstered their roster with many former JMU players he coached, while the quarterback room has vastly improved with Rourke as QB1. Rourke will pick apart an FC Panthers secondary that struggled mightily last season due to not generating an effective pass rush, something Cignetti should take advantage of against Indiana.
Indiana will bring fans to their feet on Saturday defensively. FIU quarterback Jamar Amaru had difficulty making passes last season and will face constant pressure from Indiana’s defense. Cignetti’s Dukes made frequent inroads into FIU backfields last year, and transfer players will cause havoc against an uncertain Panther O-line.
Historical experience tells me I wouldn’t feel confident betting Indiana by 21.5 points; however, under Cignetti, it should be vastly different, and FIU will learn this firsthand on Saturday in Bloomington! Indiana 45 FIU 10
