Four years after indirectly denouncing the Browns for passing on him at top of the 2018 NFL Draft, Josh Rosen landed in Cleveland as quarterback insurance, joining his sixth team in five seasons. Watson faces a possible severe NFL ban, and Brissett, the only arm with starter experience, is on the roster. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that Rosen will join the team on a one-year deal. This comes ahead of training camp. Check out the top sports betting sites for betting on the NFL.
Rosen was in town to train with free agent reserve AJ McCarron. The Browns were also scouting other QB options. Rosen was widely considered to be one of the best signal-callers in the 2018 class by Cleveland when Mayfield was drafted. He eventually went No. 10th overall to the Cardinals. After Watson and Brissett, he’ll compete against former Steelers back Joshua Dobbs to win the Browns’ No. 3 position.
Rosen could be the primary backup for the team in 2022. Watson is expected to be suspended due to his alleged sexual assault and/or misconduct as a player for the Texans. Although the Browns may still consider trading for Jimmy Garoppolo from the 49ers, it is possible that Watson will not be suspended for the entirety of the 2022 season. All signs point towards Cleveland using Brissett as an emergency replacement. Brissett has played for the Patriots (Colts) and Dolphins throughout his career.
The Jimmy G. rumor to me only has validity if Watson is to be suspended for the season; it would be hard to have two quarterbacks on the same roster making what Watson and Jimmy G. would be making. Josh Rosen is a long shot and more of a camp arm and nothing else. Brissett is just a guy, but he is a guy that is better than Josh Rosen.
