The Top two sem to switch back and forth every week between Toronto and Winnipeg; this week was no different as both teams were dominant. The Grey Cup playoff race is heating up and don’t look now, but here come the Elks!
Dustin Crum was responsible for 265 passing yards, one interception, and 42 rushing yards and one touchdown run during a loss. In comparison, Devonte Williams led all ground players with over 200 yards on his legs alone.
The Stamps are in trouble as they blew a healthy lead to the Edmonton Elks. The Stamps are now just a game ahead of the Elks.
Tre Ford overcame two turnovers and 23 unanswered points scored by the Stampeders during the first three-quarters.
As the third quarter transitioned into the fourth, things finally started clicking for the 25-year-old Ford, accepting his defence’s dare and starting to pass around the ball freely. Taylor Cornelius completed a short yardage drive that opened up the fourth quarter, and Ford finished off an 11-play 78-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown throw to Dillon Mitchell to open it off again. Faithfull’s field goals from 40 and then 42 yards sealed the win for Elks and started their way away from its long run of at-home futility.
Jake Dolegala of Saskatchewan’s Roughriders was under constant pressure throughout the game and finished 15 of 21 for 113 yards while kicker Brett Lauther made two out of three field goal attempts as Saskatchewan fell to 6-6. The Riders had played much better as of late, but that all went out the window as the Blue Bombers dominated the Riders this past weekend.
With their schedule working against them, the Ticats could have found valid excuses for why their offensive output during the opening half against Ottawa wasn’t up to par.
Instead, they made great efforts on both sides of the ball – whether scoring off incredible grabs or making key stops at crucial moments to stay within striking distance of postseason play.
At just two points behind Montreal in the East Division, the Ticats had everything to play for and left everything they had on the field.
Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo had to navigate most of the game without star receiver Austin Mack after being disqualified for an initial rough-play penalty in the opening quarter. Still, Fajardo completed 21 out of 24 passes for 236 yards with one touchdown to Cole Spieker in their pass play.
Montreal lost the turnover battle by losing three fumbles and could not find answers on both sides of the ball, falling to 6-6 in overall record and falling behind 0-2 against the Argonauts in season series play.
The Lions had a bye.
Toronto Argonauts have won their playoff spot after defeating Montreal Alouettes 39-10 at BMO Field on Saturday.
Double Blue improved to 10-1 with this win and secured their place in the post-season playoffs while remaining unblemished with an undefeated record in the Division at 6-0.
Chad Kelly had another outstanding performance, completing 21 of 28 passes for 278 yards and scoring on one rushing play – his offensive line did not allow any sacks for an unprecedented fifth-straight game!
Backup pivot Cameron Dukes contributed with a rushing major while running back AJ Ouellette netted two. Kicker Boris Bede made four out of his five field goal attempts for Toronto, while Adarius Pickett forced two fumbles. Together, these efforts helped Toronto claim victory against Montreal.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers secured their playoff berth and exacted revenge for their Labour Day Classic defeat by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a 51-6 win on Saturday at IG Field.
The Blue and Gold had a perfect start to the game, scoring touchdowns on all six drives for an overwhelming 42-6 halftime lead. They put it away from there as they claimed their 10th win of 2023!
Winnipeg has secured itself a playoff berth with 20 points – four more than West Division second-place BC Lions and 12 more than Calgary Stampeders who sit fourth.
Quarterback Zach Collaros completed 18-of-21 passes for 316 yards and five majors all within the first half, all to Dalton Schoen (three), Kenny Lawler, and Brady Oliveira who added 154 rushing yards on 18 carries to bring the Blue Bombers record up to 10-3.
