Another week with surprise losses and some lopsided scores met us in week 7. Bo Levi Mitchell was pulled in the Stamps stunning loss to the TiCats, the Riders got back on track offensively, Winnipeg continued to roll, and BC is on a heater. I went 2-2 Moneyline and 1-3 against the spread, making me 12-15 ML and 11-16 ATS overall. Let’s see if I can pump up those numbers in week 8.
(3-3) Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ (1-4) Ottawa Redblacks Wednesday 7:30 pm ET
Hamilton picked up a massive win with third-string QB David Watford under centre. He controlled the game nicely against Calgary and guided them to a victory with the help of the Tiger-Cats defence. Watford should be able to string two wins together when he starts again against the Redblacks. Unfortunately, Ottawa has been putrid all season after winning their first game. If they have any chance, Dominique Davis needs to be better this week, and they need to keep their defence off the field. It just seems like a tall task for a bad Ottawa team.
Prediction: Tiger-Cats win 32-20
(2-3) Montreal Alouettes @ (3-3) Toronto Argonauts Friday 7:30pm ET
Montreal looked bad against BC last week. The inconsistency of Vernon Adams is killing them. He threw three interceptions, and if he could be more accurate with throws and protect the ball more, they could be the best team in the east. Toronto got beat up by the Riders, but that game could have been a lot closer without costly penalties and sloppy play with the ball. Chris Jones returns to call plays in the CFL this week for Toronto. We will see how that turns out.
Prediction: Argonauts win 29-24
(4-2) Saskatchewan Roughriders @ (4-2) BC Lions Friday 10:30pm ET
The Roughriders finally looked good offensively last week against Toronto. Kian Shafer-Baker looks like a budding Canadian star at WR. William Powell looks like a beast on the ground as well. We will see if they can continue that momentum into their battle with the Lions. BC is on a heater and looks very dangerous on offence. Lucky Whitehead leads the league in receiving yards and looks to have found a home with the Lions. I think this game is going to be excellent to watch and come down to the wire.
Prediction: Roughriders win 34-31
Week 8 Betting odds: (According to BetRegal as of Sept. 21)
HAM @ OTT: Take HAM -10.5
MTL @ TOR: TOR -1.5
SSK @ BC: SSK +1
There are only three games this week as the schedule gets messed around because of the Elks’ previous COVID situation, but at least two of them could be tightly contested battles. So it should be a good week! Thanks for reading!
