The two best teams played in week 3 with a shocking result. The Alouettes showed they may be for real and the bottom three teams look to be in trouble.
Ottawa had the bye this past week.
The Elks were beaten again, but the offense finally showed some life in a 42-31 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.
Matthew Shiltz made an impressive first start as Bo Levi Mitchell was moved to the six-game injured list earlier that day, throwing for 345 yards and scoring 12 points with 4-of-4 field goals from Marc Liegghio for Hamilton. Need more than field goals to win games though.
The Stamps played well but came up short on overtime against Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan Roughriders secured an exciting 29-26 overtime victory over Calgary Stampeders on Saturday evening at McMahon Stadium.
Rene Parades kicked a 53-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to even up the game and force overtime, before trading field goals in the extra frame before going ahead on Brett Lauther 20-yard field goal, before Nic Marshall intercepted Jake Maier in the end zone on the subsequent drive to secure victory for Riders.
Jamal Morrow had an outstanding game on the ground, racking up 22 carries for 133 yards rushing.
Trevor Harris finished 20-30 for 273 yards and one touchdown.
Rookie wide receiver Austin Mack amassed 81 receiving yards on five receptions from quarterback Cody Fajardo for two touchdowns as Montreal easily defeated Hamilton Tiger-Cats 38-12.
Fajardo amassed 292 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 11 yards and scoring one score in his win against the Als. The Als defense played well as Montreal was excellent in all three phases of the game.
Ouellette ran for 84 yards and three touchdowns as the Argonauts defeated the Edmonton Elks 43-31 at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday.
Quarterback Chad Kelly – who added three rushing touchdowns just a week earlier – connected with receiver David Ungerer III for a passing touchdown, while kicker Boris Bede made both of his kicks on this evening.
Kelly completed 13 of 23 passes for 264 yards, one touchdown pass and two interceptions; Ungerer III made three receptions of 75 yards while also blocking a punt.
I will admit it’s a little scary to give up 31 points to a Elks offense that had looked inept before this game but to me, the Argos are the clear number three team in the league as of now.
The Bombers were blown out in what was supposed to be a battle of the two best teams in the CFL. I still think that they are the two best teams in the CFL, but we now know that the Lions are the better team at this point in the season.
The Lions made a huge statement by going on the road and dominating the Blue Bombers 30-6. The last time a CFL West Division team beat the Blue Bombers at home was the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sept. 8, 2018. The lions did not just beat Winnipeg, they dominated them especially at the line of scrimmage as the Lions collected seven sacks.
