The Chargers have the talent to overtake the Chiefs, but they don’t have the coaching to do it. The Broncos should be improved, but it won’t be enough to make the playoffs and the Raiders will battle for the number one pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
They’ve won seven straight AFC West titles and haven’t finished with under 12 wins since 2018… Though their may be potential issues at wide receiver and back end of defense; their chiefs do have Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid at their disposal to take care of themselves until someone takes away the division title from them – likely not going to happen anytime soon in 2023! I do think issues exist, which include the offensive line which won’t be bad but losing Orlando Brown hurts.
Theoretically, one could make the case that the Chargers boast a superior roster overall to the Chiefs. Justin Herbert is an elite quarterback. Their offense boasts numerous offensive talent with an elite offensive line. And their defense boasts pieces necessary for creating an intimidating unit – but their habit of losing close games comes back to haunt them often enough that they fall to wild-card status. Let’s face it: this team will not live up to its full potential until they have a new head coach.
Once again, Denver enters the year with lofty expectations–this time with head coach Sean Payton at the helm–, but they’ll fail to live up to them. Sure, their defense may improve from its league-worst mark last season, but that won’t be enough to stay competitive against Kansas City and San Diego. I think Russell Wilson still has gas left in the tank, but it wont be enough to get it done in this division.
They are a last-place team, and five wins may be an optimistic prediction. Jimmy Garoppolo already has practice reps reduced due to having had surgery on his foot; Josh Jacobs remains unaccounted for, and Josh McDaniels led a team last season that set an NFL record by blowing double-digit second-half leads – this team doesn’t perform. On top of that the good thing this year will be the Raiders won’t blow double-digit second-half leads because they won’t be good enough to have them!
