Montreal finished last season at 7-7. However, their +41 point differential shows how easily they could have won a few more. Calgary was just one game ahead of Montreal in the West Division. They were only 3-4 at McMahon Stadium, their home stadium. Check out the Best Bookmakers for betting on the CFL!
Bo Levi Mitchell, the Stamps’ veteran quarterback, returns to the team. He looks to rebound from a disappointing 2021 where he threw only ten touchdowns and 13 interceptions. However, he does return critical skills-position assets such as RB Ka’Deem Cary, WR Reggie Begelton and SB Kamar Jorden. These helped lead Calgary towards an average of 22.5 per game in 2021, which was the third-highest in the league.
Before this season’s opening matchup, the Alouettes must decide who will be starting as the quarterback. Vernon Adams Jr and Trevor Harris are the two most viable candidates. Adams didn’t play in Montreal’s preseason opener against the Tiger-Cats. However, Harris was 9-for-12 for 124 yards with a touchdown, and Harris was 9-for-12 for 95 yards.
Calgary won the only matchup last season, 28-22. These two teams seem to be as evenly matched to begin the season.
Montreal, a road underdog at a few Ontario sportsbooks, is a good value play. This is especially considering that the Als were 4-3 on the road last year and have a veteran group with key players.
If you are up for it, take the Als against the spread also, I think the Alouettes have two outstanding quarterbacks, and Bo Levi Mitchell isn’t getting any younger. If last season is any indication, he may be starting a slow descent down the wrong side of the hill!
