Western Kentucky opens the 2026 season Saturday night with a tricky road matchup against Nevada at Mackay Stadium. The Hilltoppers enter as narrow 2.5-point favorites after defeating Nevada 31-16 last season.

WKU returns quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr., the 2025 Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Tisdale started the final six games last season and finished with 1,432 passing yards, nine touchdowns and another two scores on the ground.

The biggest question for Nevada is quarterback. Luke Duncan, AJ Bianco and Carter Jones battled throughout preseason camp, with Duncan and Jones both producing touchdown drives during the team’s first major scrimmage.

This matchup should be considerably closer than last year. Nevada has enough returning defensive talent to pressure Tisdale, but Western Kentucky enters with more stability at quarterback and several proven offensive weapons.
