5) Georgia Bulldogs vs Oregon Ducks (Sep. 3 in Atlanta, GA)
The season will open with another former assistant going against his former team. Dan Lanning will face Kirby Smart, who he was with last season.
Georgia just won a National Championship but has a lot of work ahead. Stetson Bennett returns to his position as the starting quarterback, along with five other returning starters. The new offensive weapons will have to be more efficient or take on more responsibility. Georgia lost many of the best players on defense to the NFL, but Georgia is ready to reload.
Lanning will be able to give the Ducks some inside information on how to defeat the Bulldogs. Oregon’s offense will be a big question, but they have an excellent offensive line. Bo Nix or Ty Thompson will become Oregon’s new quarterback. The defense returns seven starters but will need to replace the pass rush of Kayvon Thibodeaux. Oregon has a chance to win the Pac-12.
4) Utah Utes at Florida Gators (Sep.3)
Utah vs Florida is one of the most unusual nonconference matchups. They had only met once before, in 1977. Florida won that day. This game will not be an easy Gators win, though.
After making the Rose Bowl last season, Utah is getting a lot of attention this season. The offense should be back on track with Cameron Rising as the quarterback and Tavion Thomas at running back. Although the defense returns only five starters, it should still be competitive. The Utes will also be looking for another Pac-12 title.
Florida will bring Billy Napier as its new coach in this game. He’s succeeded in Louisiana, and Florida will be his next challenge. He will have 11 returning starters and must be able to deliver the hype that the offense needs to improve. Although the defense is strong, it was not as successful last season. This will be the first major test to see if the Gators can compete in the SEC this season.
Although Utah is expected to have a better season than Florida’s, the Gators are still favored in the season-opening. Look for a Utah upset in this one. It should be great, regardless of the outcome.
3) Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Ohio State Buckeyes, Sep. 3
Week 1 of the college football season will see two of the most historically important programs in the country face off. Although Ohio State and Notre Dame have been in contact a few times, they rarely meet during the regular season.
The Notre Dame team will face a tough test in this game. This is Freeman’s first regular season game as head coach, and it takes place against the team he played for. After splitting his time last year, Buchner will be the quarterback’s full-time coach. The Fighting Irish will be facing the flames early.
Ohio State’s quarterback C.J. has real ambition this season. Stroud will be back at the center. With running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Jaxson Smith Njigba, he’ll be backed by a solid offensive line. The offense should be among the best in the nation. After a disappointing 2021, the defense needs to improve. However, they have a new defensive coordinator and talented players who can help.
Although the Buckeyes are expected to win, there’s nothing better than a big game in the first weekend of college football.

In a unique rivalry match, USC and Notre Dame face off for the Jewelled Shillelagh. The game this season features two teams that could have a lot at stake.
USC’s playmakers will be the biggest challenge in this game. The Fighting Irish will win the game on the road if they can contain them.
Lincoln Riley has been a major hit on the transfer portal this offseason. All three of the stars are capable of being greats: running back Travis Dye, quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Jordan Addison. USC’s defense must improve significantly if they are to be competitive. They ranked outside the top 100 in scoring last year. Although they need to improve, the Trojans still have the potential to compete in the Pac-12.
The game will be played on Saturday, the last day of the regular season. There could be a lot of hype around it.
1) Alabama Crimson Tide at Texas Longhorns, Sep. 10
.Last season, the Crimson Tide lost the National Championship. After winning the Heisman Trophy, Bryce Young is back. Although new playmakers are needed, scoring has not been an issue in recent years. Defensively, Will Anderson or Dallas Turner can cause havoc for opposing quarterbacks. They also have talent in the secondary. Alabama has a championship season or a bust season ahead.
Texas won five games last season. The Longhorns’ former offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has been named their head coach. Quinn Ewers, a highly-touted recruit from Ohio State, is his quarterback. Ewers will be surrounded by talent, including running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Although the defense was not very strong last season, eight players, including DeMarvion Overshown (a solid NFL Draft prospect), are back.
