Top 10 QBs

Ok, we all know last year’s draftable quarterbacks for the NFL were one of the worst in history, which brings us to this season. Expect the 2023 NFL draft to have at least four quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. This top ten is that good, and guys like Sam Hartman from Wake Forest just missed making the list. If you are as excited as I am about this football season, check out our top betting tips for betting on College Football.

10. Tyler Van Dyke, Miami

Tyler Van Dyke is under a lot of pressure to be the Hurricanes’ “it” guy this fall. Mario Cristobal, Miami’s first-year coach, has called his quarterback one of the best overall players in the country, regardless of his position. Van Dyke was the replacement for D’Eriq Kings, who was injured. He had 25 touchdown passes and nearly 3000 yards of air travel.

9. Will Levis, Kentucky

He threw for 24 touchdowns last season, but the accompanying 13 interceptions are cause for concern with Levis. Overall, he does many of the little things that will translate well; the offense also asks him to take snaps from under center at times, which has become a forgotten art. When you combine the prototype size, athleticism, arm talent and alpha leadership traits, you have the makings of a possible NFL starter, but I look for him to have a rough season and his stock NFL-wise will drop some.

8. Devin Leary, N.C.State

The Wolfpack, with 17 returning starters from a nine-win team, have a real chance to win the league. Leary is one reason. The film shows that several of Leary’s interceptions in the second half of last season were made at desperate times. This makes it clear that his numbers are even more impressive than they appear as the leader of an offense lacking a true No. 1 wideout. This could change if Porter Rooks or Anthony Smith, Julian Gray, or Keyon Lesane emerges as the star passer in the passing game.

7. Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina

Fifty-three touchdown passes and three interceptions. Grayson McCall accomplished this as a Chanticleers two-year starter with a 20-2. McCall’sΒ 93.2 pass grade was the best in FBS. He managed to do that with a devastating deep-ball completion ratio and without any interception to the second level. McCall’s 2022 numbers must be considered when estimating McCall’s losses to the NFL Draft. Expect to see scouting professionals generating NFL buzz as the season progresses and shifting focus to the 2023 draft. McCall would rank even higher than this if we were talking pro potential.

6. KJ Jefferson, Arkansas

This is a player of impressive size who can do everything you need from the quarterback position. K.J. is a player who has made a significant impact on the Arkansas football program. K.J. Jefferson was a hopeful impact starter and a team MVP by the end of last season. Although Jefferson isn’t as tall as Cam Newton, he’s 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds. His rugged style makes him an excellent fit for the Razorback’s attack under Kendal Briles. Need him to get tough yardage on third-and-manageable? He’s capable of doing that. It would help if you had him pull the trigger and get one to the next level. Jefferson ticks that box. Jefferson is a potential SEC MVP candidate for 2022 because of his physical ability and leadership qualities.

5. Cam Rising, Utah

Cam Rising is a high-value Heisman pick, considering his position on the long preseason list and the expectation that the Utes will be at the forefront of the College Football Playoff picture in November. Rising is coming off a stellar campaign as Utah’s starter. He was at his best against Ohio State and Oregon late in the season. Rising is a player who has a competitive edge and fierce determination. Expect a great campaign from Rising.

4. Hendon Hooker, Tennessee

Hendon Hooker doesn’t get the national respect he deserves. The Volunteers’ coaching staff thinks this guy is the key to returning them to national prominence in 2022. They will be a top 25 team during the season. He just completed a 36-touchdown season after facilitating Josh Heupel’s tempo-based offense. He also managed more than 3,500 yards of total offense. Tennessee could beat several major-time opponents if he is healthy. If the defense is strong and Hooker doesn’t have to play catch-up, Hooker has the chance to win a lot. Hooker is the wildcard selection in this top 10, with a chance of shining this fall. Check out the top new sports betting sites for betting on college football.

3. CJ Stroud, Ohio State

C.J. is coming off a 44-touchdown Buckeyes season, so it’s not surprising that he has been named the Heisman Trophy winner. Stroud ranks near the top in every Heisman odds table entering his junior season at Ohio State. This combination of Stroud and Ryan Day’s offense and Ohio State’s playmakers is a cheat code for 2022. TreVeyon Henderson, a well-respected playmaker in the backfield, relieves Stroud of some of the burden, and the teams know they will not be able to stack the box against Stroud’s passing attack. The Big Ten favorite Ohio State will also provide opportunities for impact moments in the Heisman spotlight.

2. Bryce Young, Alabama

No questions asked, Bryce Young is the SEC’s top returning player on offense; he is also college football’s best quarterback nationally in 2022. He was spectacular during his sophomore campaign, capturing Alabama’s second straight Heisman after leading the Crimson Tide to the playoffs. Young was exceptionally dynamic in big spots, achieving maximum levels in crunch time and against Georgia in the SEC Championship when he shredded the nation’s top defense. One of the projected top picks in the 2023 NFL Draft could be the best quarterback to come out of Alabama during Nick Saban’s tenure, and that’s saying a lot.

1. Caleb Williams, USC

Caleb Williams was a true five-star freshman last season and was a massive boost to Oklahoma’s offense last season. Lincoln Riley designated him a priority transfer when he left Oklahoma for USC. This USC offense will be potent this season, thanks to the talented transfer pass-catchers they acquired in the off-season. Williams is already a star amongst the other quarterbacks. All the ingredients for a serious Heisman threat are available for Williams, now the West Coast’s star quarterback. He reminds me a little of Patrick Mahomes and I really think he wins the Heisman and takes the Trojans to the CFP.
