All the rest will fall into place when Will Anderson plays the Jack edge rusher role. Alabama’s top pass rusher is Dallas Turner, who plays the role of a playmaker from the strongside. Henry To’o To’o will also be a key player in the middle.
Bama lacked depth last season; that will not be an issue this season.
Is everyone healthy? Justin Flowe is as talented as any college linebacker, but he’s never been able to stay healthy. He’s ready for the outside, and Noah Sewell, the leading tackler, can handle it all in the middle. The Ducks are loaded with pro prospect Mase Fun and rising star Bradyn Swinson.
The already stellar linebacking corps was enhanced by the return of Isaiah Moore from injury, who will be back patrolling the middle of the Wolfpack’s defense. Payton Wilson, who led the team in tackles in 2019, and 2020, is back. Drake Thomas is a star on the strong side.
Georgia may be able to replace Nakobe, Quay Walker and Channing Tindall’s talents, but it won’t be possible to replace last year’s linebacking corps’s chemistry quickly. Nolan Smith can be right there with the other three, Robert Beal has seen start time, and Trezman Marsh gets to replace Dean. It’s Georgia, so there won’t likely be any considerable drop-off.
The Irish defense will be strong, and the linebackers will be the stars. This coaching staff is skilled at increasing the production from this position. JD Bertrand was the leader in tackles for the team, and now he is back in the middle. Jack Kiser is versatile and can do some of everything from the outside. Bo Bauer is an excellent backup.
This group can tackle. Jack Campbell, an All-Big Ten hitter, made 143 tackles, while Seth Benson had 105 tackles on the weak side. The rest of the corps is full of upperclassmen who will rotate in if Campbell or Benson are unavailable. Check out the top new bookmakers for betting on college football.
The Washington linebacking corps is incredibly talented. The transfer portal cost the Huskies their top tackler Jackson Sirmon, who was lost to Cal. Cam Bright, a former Pitt Panther, is a great inside backer. Kristopher Moll, formerly a UAB Blazer, can also do it on the inside. Carson Bruener, meanwhile, is proving to be a rising star who will push for some time. The new coaching staff will need to find ways to get everyone onto the field, especially Edefuan Ulofoshio, the big-time tackler.
Although there isn’t a lot of national star power, this group is solid. JJ Weaver, the team’s top tackler last year, is back with Jacquez Jones in the middle. DeAndre Square, the third-leading tackler, returns to the weak side. There’s talent supporting all three spots – even though it’s green.
This group is huge, it can thump, and they just added Jackson Sirmon, a Washington transfer, to the middle. Femi Oladejo excels against the run, Muelu IIosefa is third in tackles, and Orin Patu is an edge pass rusher.
Last year, the Orange were young at linebacker. The stars are returning from a strong D that allowed only 3.5 yards per carry.Β Stefon Thompson and Mikel Jones were all underclassmen, but they ended up being the top three tacklers on the team.Β This group is also capable of getting into the backfield.
