The Big Ten enters the 2026 college football season with an impressive combination of established stars, promising young playmakers and high-profile transfers.

Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith remains the unquestioned standard at the position, but the conference’s depth extends well beyond Columbus. Rutgers returns one of college football’s most productive receivers, defending national champion Indiana reloaded through the transfer portal, and several talented sophomores appear ready to become household names.

These rankings are based on previous production, individual talent, projected role, quarterback situation and expected impact during the 2026 season.

10. Jacory Barney Jr., Nebraska

Jacory Barney Jr. might not possess the traditional size of a featured Big Ten receiver, but few players in the conference can match his versatility.

Barney started all 13 games for Nebraska in 2025, finishing with 45 receptions for 484 yards and five touchdowns. He also contributed significantly on special teams, producing 1,049 all-purpose yards and earning third-team All-Big Ten recognition as a return specialist.

The Cornhuskers can manufacture touches for Barney through screens, jet sweeps and quick passes designed to get him into open space. His acceleration makes him especially dangerous after the catch, while his return ability gives him additional opportunities to change games.

Barney must become more consistent as a downfield receiver, but Nebraska doesn’t need him to operate as a conventional outside target. If the Cornhuskers continue finding creative ways to use him, Barney could become one of the Big Ten’s most entertaining offensive weapons.

9. Tanook Hines, USC

USC lost Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane to the NFL, creating an enormous opportunity for Tanook Hines to emerge as the Trojans’ next featured receiver.

Hines caught 34 passes for 561 yards and two touchdowns during his freshman season, averaging an impressive 16.5 yards per reception. His biggest performance came in the Alamo Bowl, where he produced a career-high 163 receiving yards on six catches.

That performance provided a glimpse of what Hines could accomplish with a larger role. He has the speed to stretch defenses vertically but is more than a one-dimensional deep threat. Hines can create separation from different alignments and has already demonstrated the ability to generate explosive plays against quality competition.

Transfer receiver Terrell Anderson should also receive plenty of opportunities, but Hines enters the offseason with valuable experience in USC’s system and established chemistry with quarterback Jayden Maiava. Those advantages could help him become the Trojans’ No. 1 receiver in 2026.

8. Nyziah Hunter, Nebraska

Nyziah Hunter provided Nebraska with stability and production during an otherwise inconsistent offensive season in 2025.

Hunter started every regular-season game and led the Cornhuskers with 617 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. His 43 receptions ranked third on the team. At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Hunter combines good size with the athleticism needed to win on intermediate and vertical routes.

What separates Hunter from Nebraska’s other receivers is his ability to operate as a more traditional outside target. While Barney creates opportunities through movement and manufactured touches, Hunter can defeat coverage downfield and make contested catches along the sideline.

Nebraska’s quarterback play and overall offensive development will determine Hunter’s statistical ceiling. If the Cornhuskers can establish a consistent passing attack, he has the talent to approach 1,000 receiving yards.

7. Alex Perry, Illinois

Alex Perry arrives at Illinois as one of the most intriguing wide-receiver transfers in the Big Ten.

Perry caught 56 passes for 840 yards and nine touchdowns at Florida International in 2025, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors. He led the Panthers in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns while recording a career-high 140 yards and two scores against Sam Houston.

At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, Perry gives Illinois a large target capable of creating mismatches on the outside and inside the red zone. His size should be especially valuable on third downs, where he can use his frame to shield defenders and provide his quarterback with a generous catch radius.

The obvious question is how quickly Perry’s production will translate against Big Ten defenses. The coverage will be more physical, and the defensive backs will generally be faster.

6. Dakorien Moore, Oregon

Dakorien Moore arrived at Oregon as one of the most highly regarded receivers in his recruiting class, and his freshman season confirmed that the hype was justified.

Moore recorded 34 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. One of his most impressive performances came during Oregon’s double-overtime victory at Penn State, when he caught seven passes for 89 yards in one of the most demanding environments in college football.

With several veteran receivers departing, Moore is positioned to become the centerpiece of Oregon’s passing game. His explosiveness allows him to threaten defenses vertically, but he also possesses the quickness and route-running ability to create opportunities underneath.

Playing with quarterback Dante Moore should only enhance his chances of having a breakout season. Oregon consistently creates favorable matchups for its playmakers, and Dakorien Moore is likely to receive touches from several different alignments.

If he makes the expected second-year improvement, 1,000 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns are attainable goals.

5. Andrew Marsh, Michigan

Andrew Marsh became one of Michigan’s most dependable offensive weapons during his freshman season.

Marsh caught 45 passes for 651 yards and four touchdowns in 2025, highlighted by a spectacular 12-catch, 189-yard performance against Northwestern. Perhaps even more impressive was that he reportedly completed his freshman season without a recorded drop.

That dependability should make Marsh an essential part of Michigan’s offense in 2026. He and quarterback Bryce Underwood now have an entire offseason to strengthen the chemistry they began developing as freshmen.

Marsh might not have Jeremiah Smith’s overwhelming physical traits or Dakorien Moore’s pure explosiveness, but he is polished beyond his years. He runs precise routes, catches the ball consistently and understands how to find open space against zone coverage.

Michigan has traditionally leaned on its running game, which may limit Marsh’s overall reception total. Nevertheless, he has the talent and quarterback relationship required to become the Wolverines’ first true 1,000-yard receiver in years.

4. Nick Marsh, Indiana

Nick Marsh’s transfer from Michigan State to Indiana gave the defending national champions another potentially dominant outside receiver.

Marsh caught 59 passes for 662 yards and six touchdowns in 2025 despite Michigan State’s inconsistent quarterback play. The numbers were respectable, but they did not completely demonstrate what Marsh can do in a functional, aggressive passing attack.

At 6-foot-3, Marsh possesses the size and physical strength to defeat press coverage, make contested catches and become a major red-zone weapon. His arrival provides Indiana with a natural replacement for some of the size and production it lost following the departures of Elijah Sarratt and Omar Cooper Jr.

Marsh will also benefit from playing with Josh Hoover, who transferred to Indiana after producing more than 7,000 passing yards and 50 touchdowns across his final two seasons at TCU.

If Marsh quickly learns the offense and develops chemistry with Hoover, he could produce the best season of his college career while helping Indiana defend its championship.

3. Charlie Becker, Indiana

Charlie Becker became one of Indiana’s most important offensive players during its national championship season, and his role should expand considerably in 2026.

Becker finished 2025 with 34 receptions for 679 yards and four touchdowns, averaging nearly 20 yards per catch. He surpassed 100 receiving yards in three of Indiana’s final four regular-season games and added 164 yards with two touchdowns during the Hoosiers’ College Football Playoff run.

Those performances proved Becker could produce when the pressure and competition increased.

At 6-foot-4, Becker has the size to win contested catches, but his ability to create explosive plays distinguishes him from many other big receivers. He can track the football downfield and turn intermediate completions into substantial gains.

2. KJ Duff, Rutgers

KJ Duff might be the most underrated star in college football.

The 6-foot-6 Rutgers receiver caught 60 passes for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025, averaging 18.1 yards per reception. His 22 contested catches reportedly tied for the national lead, demonstrating his ability to dominate defensive backs when the football is in the air.

Duff’s best performance came against Purdue, when he finished with seven catches for 241 yards. That game displayed his entire skill set: size, body control, downfield speed and the ability to take over an offense.

The biggest concern is Rutgers’ quarterback situation. Duff will need consistent play from either AJ Surace, Dylan Lonergan or whoever ultimately wins the starting job.

Even with that uncertainty, Duff belongs near the top of this list because he has already produced elite numbers without playing in one of the conference’s most explosive offenses. If Rutgers improves around him, Duff could lead the Big Ten in receiving yards and become an early-round NFL Draft selection.

1. Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State

There is no legitimate debate about the No. 1 receiver in the Big Ten.

Jeremiah Smith enters his junior season as college football’s premier player at the position. Through his first two seasons at Ohio State, Smith accumulated 163 receptions for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns while earning All-America recognition twice.

Smith has everything NFL evaluators want in a featured receiver. He possesses elite size, speed, strength, ball skills and body control. He can defeat press coverage, separate from defensive backs downfield and turn short completions into touchdowns.

The departure of Carnell Tate could result in even more targets for Smith, although opposing defenses will design their entire game plans around limiting him. That attention has rarely mattered. Smith’s physical advantages allow him to make catches even when defenders are in proper position.

The expectations are enormous: another All-America selection, a possible Heisman Trophy campaign and an opportunity to become the first non-quarterback selected in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Until somebody proves otherwise, Smith is not only the Big Ten’s best receiver—he is the best wide receiver in college football.
