Defending national champion No. 6 Indiana begins its title defense Saturday afternoon when North Texas visits Memorial Stadium for a nationally televised season opener on FOX. Indiana enters as a massive 40.5-point favorite, but the Mean Green are coming off a 12-2 season in which they led the nation with 45.1 points per game.

Indiana begins a new chapter at quarterback with Josh Hoover, the TCU transfer who enters Bloomington with 9,629 career passing yards, 71 touchdowns and 16 career 300-yard games. Hoover takes over an offense that scored 41.6 points per game last season and should again feature plenty of explosive weapons.

One of those weapons is Michigan State transfer Nick Marsh, who recorded 100 receptions for 1,311 yards and nine touchdowns over his first two college seasons. Running back Turbo Richard also joins the Hoosiers after rushing for 749 yards and nine touchdowns at Boston College last season.

North Texas presents an interesting storyline at quarterback. Tayven Jackson, who previously played at Indiana, won the Mean Green starting job and now returns to Bloomington as the opposing quarterback. Jackson threw for 2,151 yards with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions at UCF in 2025.

The Mean Green also added former West Virginia running back Jahiem White, who has averaged 6.5 yards per carry during his college career. Receiver Corri Milliner provides another potential playmaker after recording 341 yards and three touchdowns in only five games at UAB last season.

North Texas has enough offensive talent to avoid being dismissed completely, but Indiana’s defense allowed just 11.7 points per game last season. The Hoosiers’ combination of defensive speed, quarterback experience and home-field advantage creates a major challenge for a North Texas team installing a new system under head coach Neal Brown.
