North Carolina vs. TCU 2026 Dublin Preview: Prediction, Betting Odds & 4 Prop Bets

Saturday, August 29, 2026

Time: 12:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM Local Time Location: Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland Event: Aer Lingus College Football Classic TV: ESPN Betting Line: TCU -7.5 Moneyline: TCU approximately -310 / North Carolina +250 Over/Under: 47.5 Points

College football returns to Dublin when North Carolina and TCU open their 2026 seasons in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

This is also a rematch after TCU dominated North Carolina 48-14 in Chapel Hill to open the 2025 season. The Horned Frogs eventually finished 9-4 and beat USC in the Alamo Bowl, while Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels struggled to a 4-8 record.

Both offenses look different entering 2026.

North Carolina begins Year 2 under Belichick with veteran transfer Billy Edwards Jr. at quarterback and Bobby Petrino taking over as offensive coordinator.

TCU replaces longtime starter Josh Hoover with Harvard transfer Jaden Craig, who threw for 2,869 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. Craig will operate in a new offense under coordinator Gordon Sammis.

The betting market has moved toward TCU, with the Horned Frogs favored by 7.5 points, while the total has dropped to 47.5.

Craig arrives from Harvard after one of the best seasons in program history.

He threw for 2,869 yards and 25 touchdowns while averaging 260.8 passing yards per game and surpassing 300 yards five times.

TCU also returns receiver Jordan Dwyer, who caught 54 passes for 730 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

The biggest concern is Craig’s jump from Ivy League competition to his first FBS start, which also comes overseas against a Belichick-coached defense.

Still, if TCU throws 30-plus times, 220 yards is attainable.

Jeremy Payne could become one of the Big 12’s breakout running backs.

He rushed for 623 yards and five touchdowns on 110 carries last season, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. His biggest performance came against Cincinnati, when he rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns.

Payne should receive a larger workload in 2026, especially with Craig making his first FBS start.

The obvious way to help a new quarterback is to establish the run, create manageable downs and slow the pass rush.

North Carolina allowed only about 125.7 rushing yards per game last season, so this is not an easy matchup. Still, Payne’s efficiency makes a projected line around 60 yards attractive.

Projected Bet: Jeremy Payne Over 59.5 Rushing Yards

Prop Bet #3: Jordan Dwyer Over 54.5 Receiving Yards

Dwyer already knows how to attack North Carolina.

In last season’s opener, he caught nine passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. He eventually finished the season with 54 receptions for 730 yards and seven scores.

With Eric McAlister and Joseph Manjack IV gone, Dwyer becomes TCU’s most proven returning receiving option.

That should make him a natural security blanket for Craig.

North Carolina will certainly devote more attention to him this time, but a projected number in the mid-50s is still reasonable for a receiver who has already proven he can thrive in this matchup.

The under may be the strongest overall wager.

Both teams are installing new offensive systems with new starting quarterbacks. Edwards makes his first start for North Carolina, while Craig makes his first FBS start for TCU.

The international setting adds another variable, including altered travel schedules, routines and preparation.

North Carolina also averaged only 19.25 points and 289.2 yards per game last season. Petrino should improve the offense, but everything may not click immediately.

TCU scored 48 points against UNC last year, so the over cannot be dismissed. However, season openers with new quarterbacks often begin conservatively.

Bet: Under 47.5 Points

Betting Prediction

North Carolina should be better in 2026.

Petrino gives the offense an experienced play caller, while Edwards brings Power Four experience at quarterback. The Tar Heels should avoid another embarrassing result like last year’s 48-14 loss.

But TCU still looks like the more complete team.

Payne provides a strong rushing foundation, Dwyer gives Craig an established No. 1 receiver, and Craig brings extensive starting experience even if it came at the Ivy League level.

Expect both teams to begin cautiously.

North Carolina should emphasize manageable throws and the running game to settle Edwards, while TCU should lean on Payne before asking Craig to attack downfield.

That conservative opening favors the under.

As the game progresses, TCU should begin creating separation. Craig can find Dwyer on intermediate routes, Payne should become more effective as the game wears on, and the Horned Frogs have enough defensive talent to create a short field through a sack or turnover.

North Carolina should remain competitive but may struggle to produce the explosive plays necessary to erase a two-score deficit.

The Verdict

The Tar Heels should make this significantly closer than last year’s meeting, but TCU remains the safer side.

The Horned Frogs have the more established overall roster and enough offensive balance to control the second half.

Final Score Prediction: TCU Horned Frogs 27, North Carolina Tar Heels 17

Best Bet: Under 47.5

Against the Spread: TCU -7.5

Moneyline: TCU

Top Player Prop: Jeremy Payne Over 59.5 Rushing Yards
