Louisville returns from its bye week Saturday afternoon looking for a third consecutive victory when Stanford visits L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium for the Cardinals’ Homecoming game.
Louisville enters 4-3 overall and 3-2 in ACC play after consecutive victories over Florida State and Syracuse. Jeff Brohm’s team defeated Florida State 44-20 before going on the road and beating Syracuse 34-26. All three Louisville losses this season have come by exactly three points.
Stanford has also won two straight after a difficult middle portion of its schedule. The Cardinal defeated Elon 34-7 before earning an impressive 31-28 victory over NC State on October 23.
Quarterback Davis Warren delivered his best performance of the season against NC State, completing 22 of 37 passes for 303 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Running back Micah Ford added 150 rushing yards and finished with 208 yards from scrimmage.
That offensive improvement gives Stanford some hope against a Louisville defense that has been vulnerable.
Louisville allows 419.9 total yards and 27.4 points per game, including 268.9 passing yards. Stanford’s offense averages 247.4 passing yards, meaning Warren could find opportunities against the Cardinals’ secondary.
The larger mismatch comes when Louisville has the football.
The Cardinals average 484.6 total yards and 38.7 points per game, ranking among the nation’s most productive offenses. Louisville averages 269.6 passing yards and 215 rushing yards. Stanford allows 443.1 yards and 35.5 points per game while giving up 187.6 rushing yards.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has thrown for 1,844 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. Running back Isaac Brown has 568 yards on only 83 carries, and Lawayne McCoy leads Louisville with 513 receiving yards.
Louisville also has revenge motivation. These programs have met only once, with Stanford stunning the Cardinals 38-35 in 2024 on a walk-off 52-yard field goal.
Lincoln Kienholz — Louisville: Has thrown for 1,844 yards and gives Brohm an efficient quarterback capable of attacking Stanford’s vulnerable secondary.
Isaac Brown — Louisville: Leads Louisville with 568 rushing yards and should find favorable running lanes against a defense allowing nearly 188 yards per game on the ground.
Lawayne McCoy — Louisville: Leads the Cardinals with 513 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Davis Warren — Stanford: Has thrown for 1,933 yards with 11 touchdowns against only two interceptions and is coming off a four-touchdown performance.
Micah Ford — Stanford: Leads Stanford with 679 rushing yards and eight touchdowns after producing 150 yards against NC State.
Caden High — Stanford: Team-leading receiver with 440 yards and four touchdowns after catching nine passes for 103 yards against NC State.
Stanford needs to shorten the game with Ford.
Louisville’s defense allows 151 rushing yards per game, and Stanford cannot afford to let the Cardinals turn this into an offensive shootout.
The Cardinal also need another mistake-free performance from Warren. Louisville owns a plus-six turnover margin, while Stanford sits at plus-one. Giving Brohm’s offense short fields would be disastrous.
Defensively, Stanford must improve on third down. Opponents are converting 49.1 percent of third-down opportunities against the Cardinal, while Louisville converts 45.6 percent offensively.
Louisville should attack Stanford’s defense immediately.
The Cardinal rank near the bottom of the FBS in scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense. Brown should establish the run before Kienholz attacks favorable matchups downfield.
The Cardinals also need to pressure Warren. Stanford showed against NC State what its offense can become when its quarterback has time.
Player prop availability varies by sportsbook. The following are recommended target lines if similar markets are offered.
Stanford allows 255.5 passing yards per game, while Louisville averages nearly 270.
Kienholz also threw for 310 yards in Louisville’s win over Syracuse.
Prediction: Over 249.5 passing yards.
Brown is averaging approximately 6.8 yards per carry, while Stanford has consistently struggled against the run.
If Louisville builds an early lead, Brown’s workload could increase in the second half.
Prediction: Over 74.5 rushing yards.
Stanford could be forced to throw throughout the second half if Louisville builds the lead the spread suggests.
Warren is coming off 303 yards and four touchdowns, while Louisville ranks near the bottom nationally in pass defense.
Prediction: Over 229.5 passing yards.
Ford has become Stanford’s most dependable offensive weapon.
He rushed 22 times for 150 yards against NC State and should receive another heavy workload as Stanford attempts to keep Louisville’s offense on the sideline.
Prediction: Over 69.5 rushing yards.
Louisville’s offensive advantages are significant enough to justify a three-touchdown-plus spread.
Stanford has improved over the last two games, but the Cardinal are 0-3 on the road and have lost those road contests by an average of more than 44 points.
The total of 61.5 is also reachable because Louisville averages nearly 39 points while both defenses have been vulnerable.
Louisville 45, Stanford 24
Louisville -22.5 Over 61.5 Isaac Brown Over 74.5 Rushing Yards Davis Warren Over 229.5 Passing Yards
Stanford’s recent improvement should allow the Cardinal to score, particularly against Louisville’s secondary. But keeping pace for four quarters is another matter.
Louisville’s balance between Kienholz and Brown should repeatedly expose a Stanford defense allowing more than 440 yards per game.
Expect Stanford to remain competitive early before Louisville’s offensive depth takes over.
Prediction: Louisville 45, Stanford 24.
Your supplied line is Louisville -22.5 with a 61.5 total. That matches DraftKings pricing reported Monday morning, although other books have Louisville closer to -21.5. Confirm the final spread and player-prop availability before wagering.
