No. 4 Ohio State at No. 5 Indiana 2026 Preview: Prediction, Betting Odds & 4 Prop Bets

One of the biggest games of the 2026 college football season takes place Saturday afternoon in Bloomington when No. 4 Ohio State visits No. 5 Indiana in a showdown between Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff contenders.

Ohio State enters 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play after dominating Maryland 45-16. Indiana remains perfect at 6-0 and 3-0 in the conference after rallying from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Nebraska 20-17.

The Buckeyes are 3.5-point road favorites, but Indiana brings a 22-game winning streak into Memorial Stadium and defeated Ohio State 13-10 in last season’s Big Ten Championship Game.

Ohio State has spectacular individual talent. Indiana has the advantage that should matter most Saturday: the Hoosiers are better up front, and their ability to control the line of scrimmage will decide this game.

Game Information

Matchup: No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers Date: Saturday, October 17, 2026 Kickoff: 12:00 PM ETTV: FOX Venue: Memorial Stadium — Bloomington, Indiana Tickets: As low as $443Point Spread: Ohio State -3.5Over/Under: 51.5

Indiana’s victory last December changed the expectations surrounding this matchup. The Hoosiers enter Saturday knowing they can beat Ohio State by winning the physical battles that determine whether an offense operates comfortably.

That is the foundation of this prediction: Indiana will create more consistent pressure defensively and enough rushing production offensively to control the game’s most important possessions.

Ohio State: Explosive Talent Faces a Different Challenge

Ohio State has responded to its one-point loss at Texas with four consecutive victories.

The Buckeyes dismantled Maryland last week, 45-16, generating 449 total yards while holding the Terrapins to only 146.

Quarterback Julian Sayin completed 13 of 21 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns. He enters Bloomington with 1,772 passing yards through six games.

His biggest weapon remains Jeremiah Smith.

Smith caught four passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns against Maryland and has already accumulated 916 receiving yards this season.

Ohio State also received 107 rushing yards from Bo Jackson as the Buckeyes finished with 207 yards on the ground.

Those numbers demonstrate Ohio State’s ceiling. Indiana’s defensive front will test whether the Buckeyes can reach it against an opponent capable of disrupting the offense before those explosive plays develop.

Sayin needs time for Smith’s routes to unfold. Jackson needs running lanes that allow him to reach the second level.

My expectation is that Indiana will make both considerably harder to find.

Indiana: The Advantage Starts at the Line of Scrimmage

Indiana’s trip to Nebraska demonstrated why the Hoosiers keep winning.

Trailing 17-6 with just over 12 minutes remaining, Josh Hoover connected with Nick Marsh for touchdown passes of 75 and 44 yards to produce a 20-17 victory.

Hoover finished with 263 passing yards, while Marsh delivered six receptions, 187 yards and two touchdowns.

The victory extended Indiana’s winning streak to 22 games.

But the case for Indiana against Ohio State extends beyond its ability to survive adversity.

The Hoosiers can pressure Sayin without constantly sacrificing coverage. Winning with the defensive front would allow Indiana to keep more defenders available to limit Smith while still challenging Ohio State’s protection.

Offensively, Indiana must deliver a better rushing performance than it did at Nebraska, where it finished with only 65 yards.

I expect that improvement.

Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr. give Indiana multiple options, and the offensive line should create enough productive early-down carries to keep Hoover out of repeated third-and-long situations.

The Hoosiers do not need to overwhelm Ohio State on every snap. They need to win enough first downs, sustain enough possessions and make the Buckeyes defend the entire offense.

That is where Indiana can take control.

Indiana’s defensive pressure should affect Sayin’s efficiency, but Ohio State may need passing volume to compensate for a difficult rushing afternoon.

If the Buckeyes trail during the second half, Sayin could clear this number while still struggling to finish enough drives.

Passing yardage alone will not determine which offense controls the game.

Prediction: Julian Sayin — 278 passing yards

Smith is talented enough to produce even when the overall offense faces resistance.

Indiana’s objective should be limiting his touchdowns and preventing repeated game-changing receptions. Holding him below every statistical threshold is a different assignment.

Expect Ohio State to keep targeting its most dangerous receiver, particularly if Indiana’s front limits the running game.

Prediction: Jeremiah Smith — 112 receiving yards

Marsh demonstrated at Nebraska how quickly he can change a game.

Indiana’s projected advantage up front should help create opportunities through play-action and give Hoover enough time to find Marsh beyond the underneath coverage.

With Charlie Becker also requiring attention, Ohio State cannot devote its entire coverage plan to one receiver.

Prediction: Nick Marsh — 78 receiving yards

Jackson enters with 460 rushing yards and produced 107 against Maryland.

This is the least convincing of the four overs because Indiana’s defensive front should make consistent rushing production difficult.

Jackson can still reach the target through workload and a handful of successful carries. That would not necessarily mean Ohio State controlled the ground game or avoided damaging negative plays.

Prediction: Bo Jackson — 76 rushing yards

Players to Watch

Julian Sayin — Ohio State

Sayin must handle pressure without allowing sacks or rushed decisions to destroy possessions. His response when Indiana wins an early-down snap will be crucial.

Jeremiah Smith — Ohio State

Smith remains Ohio State’s most dangerous receiving threat. Indiana can survive some production from him, but repeated explosive touchdowns would undermine its defensive plan.

Josh Hoover — Indiana

Hoover’s job is to turn solid protection and manageable down-and-distance situations into sustained offense. His composure gives Indiana a quarterback capable of finishing a close game.

Nick Marsh — Indiana

Marsh can punish Ohio State if its defense becomes too aggressive against the run. His ability to create substantial gains gives Indiana an answer when the Buckeyes tighten their coverage underneath.

Keys to the Game

Indiana Must Make Its Defensive Front the Difference

The Hoosiers need to pressure Sayin while maintaining disciplined rush lanes and coverage behind them.

If Indiana can win those matchups without repeatedly sending extra defenders, Ohio State will have fewer easy answers.

The Hoosiers Must Establish Productive Early-Down Runs

Indiana needs improvement from its Nebraska rushing performance.

Four- and five-yard gains would keep Hoover’s options open, create play-action opportunities and prevent Ohio State from treating every important down as an obvious passing situation.

Ohio State Must Avoid Playing From Behind the Chains

A sack, holding penalty or stuffed run becomes more damaging when the defense can pressure the quarterback without exposing its secondary.

Indiana should make the Buckeyes string together difficult plays rather than surrender easy scoring opportunities.

Indiana Must Finish Its Best Possessions

Controlling the line of scrimmage matters most when it produces points.

The Hoosiers need touchdowns from their strongest drives and a late possession that forces Ohio State to spend timeouts or defend while trailing.

Betting Prediction

Indiana +3.5 is the strongest selection, but the Hoosiers can do more than cover.

My expectation is that Indiana will be the more dependable team at the line of scrimmage. Its defensive front should disrupt Ohio State’s rhythm, while its offensive line creates enough balance to keep Hoover in favorable situations.

Smith will make plays. Sayin will accumulate passing yards. Neither guarantees that Ohio State will control the game.

Indiana should be better positioned to win the difficult downs: third-and-short, a protection assignment near midfield and the late drive that decides whether an opponent gets another possession.

The 51.5 total also points toward the under if Indiana’s front consistently forces Ohio State to work through longer, less efficient drives.

The Verdict

Indiana wins because it is better up front.

The Hoosiers pressure Sayin, prevent Ohio State from establishing a comfortable rushing rhythm and give Hoover enough protection to deliver timely completions.

Marsh supplies an explosive play, Richard and Beebe help sustain possessions, and Indiana’s offensive line takes control when the game reaches its most demanding stretch.

Ohio State’s individual stars keep the Buckeyes competitive. Indiana’s work at the line of scrimmage decides the outcome.

Final Score Prediction

Indiana 27, Ohio State 20

Final Prediction: Indiana 27, Ohio State 20
