Louisville heads to the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday night looking to build on its most impressive performance of the season when the Cardinals face Syracuse in an ACC matchup.
Louisville enters 3-3 overall and 2-2 in ACC play after exploding for a 44-20 victory over Florida State. Syracuse is 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the ACC after letting a 17-7 halftime advantage slip away in a 28-25 loss at Virginia.
The Cardinals are favored by 13.5 points, which means Louisville must win by at least 14 points to cover the spread. Syracuse +13.5 covers if the Orange win outright or lose by 13 points or fewer.
Matchup: Louisville Cardinals at Syracuse Orange Date: Saturday, October 17, 2026 Kickoff: 7:30 PM ET TV: ACC Network Venue: JMA Wireless Dome — Syracuse, New York Tickets: As low as $41 Point Spread: Louisville -13.5 Over/Under: 56.5
Louisville leads the all-time series 13-8, although Syracuse won the most recent meeting 31-7 in 2022.
Louisville’s offense produced its best rushing performance of the Jeff Brohm era against Florida State.
The Cardinals rushed for 397 yards and finished with 537 total yards despite falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter. Louisville responded by scoring 35 consecutive points and eventually pulled away for a 24-point victory.
Running back Isaac Brown was sensational.
Brown carried 17 times for a career-high 235 yards and two touchdowns, including scoring runs of 97 and 68 yards. His 97-yard touchdown was the longest play from scrimmage in Louisville history.
Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz didn’t need huge passing numbers against Florida State, completing 11 of 15 throws for 140 yards, but he added 40 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Through his first five games, Kienholz completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 1,394 yards, nine touchdowns and only one interception. Louisville was averaging 486 yards and 38.6 points per game through that stretch.
That combination of efficiency and explosive rushing makes Louisville difficult to defend.
Syracuse’s 0-3 ACC record doesn’t tell the complete story.
The Orange generated 430 total yards against Virginia, including 267 through the air and 163 on the ground, but allowed the Cavaliers to score three touchdowns over the final 17 minutes.
Quarterback Malachi Nelson made his first Syracuse start and completed 16 of 29 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown before leaving late with an injury. Backup Danny Lauter immediately connected with Daunte Bacheyie for a 46-yard touchdown that pulled Syracuse within three.
Nelson’s status becomes one of the biggest variables entering Saturday.
Whoever plays quarterback will have two dangerous offensive weapons.
Running back Tylik Hill rushed for 118 yards against Virginia after producing 140 yards against UConn. Wide receiver Umari Hatcher caught eight passes for 126 yards and a touchdown at Virginia after posting 12 receptions, 152 yards and three touchdowns against UConn.
Syracuse can move the football. The question is whether the Orange can finish enough drives to stay with Louisville.
College player-prop availability varies by sportsbook, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Brown is coming off one of the best rushing performances in college football this season.
Louisville should continue giving him opportunities after the Cardinals rushed for 397 yards against Florida State.
Prediction: Isaac Brown — 118 rushing yards
Kienholz didn’t need to throw much last week, but his season numbers show a much larger passing ceiling.
He’s averaging nearly 280 passing yards per game through his first five appearances.
Prediction: Lincoln Kienholz — 237 passing yards
Hatcher has produced 278 receiving yards over his last two games and has clearly become the focal point of Syracuse’s passing attack.
The Orange are likely to throw heavily if Louisville builds a lead.
Prediction: Umari Hatcher — 87 receiving yards
Hill has now recorded consecutive 100-yard performances.
Syracuse needs him to remain productive because establishing the run is its best chance to keep Louisville’s offense off the field.
Prediction: Tylik Hill — 78 rushing yards
Brown’s explosiveness completely changed the Florida State game. Syracuse cannot allow him to reach the second level consistently.
Kienholz has combined efficient passing with dangerous rushing ability and excellent ball security.
Hatcher has caught 20 passes for 278 yards and four touchdowns over his last two games.
Hill’s consecutive 100-yard games give Syracuse a legitimate way to control possession.
Louisville needs to remain committed to Brown and its rushing attack. Syracuse has enough offensive firepower to make the Cardinals pay if Louisville becomes one-dimensional or turns the football over.
Defensively, Louisville must prevent Hill from controlling the game and limit Hatcher’s explosive receptions.
Syracuse needs to avoid another second-half collapse. The Orange led Virginia by 10 at halftime but were unable to protect the advantage.
The quarterback situation also matters significantly. Nelson’s late injury at Virginia adds uncertainty for Syracuse heading into its first home game in more than a month.
The Louisville -13.5 spread is straightforward: the Cardinals need to win by 14 points or more for Louisville bettors to cash.
A Louisville victory by 13 or fewer points means Syracuse +13.5 covers.
Louisville has been inconsistent, but its three losses this season have all come by exactly three points, while its offense has shown tremendous upside. The Florida State performance demonstrated what this team can look like when the running game takes control.
Syracuse has enough offensive talent to score, but Louisville’s balance gives the Cardinals a major advantage.
The 56.5 total looks slightly high if Louisville controls possession with Brown and its rushing attack.
Syracuse keeps the game competitive through the first half behind Hill and Hatcher, but Louisville gradually takes control.
Brown surpasses 100 rushing yards, Kienholz produces an efficient performance and the Cardinals create enough explosive plays to pull away in the second half.
Louisville 34, Syracuse 20
Betting Category Pick Best Bet Isaac Brown Over 89.5 Rushing Yards Against the Spread Louisville -13.5 Moneyline Louisville Over/Under Under 56.5 Top Prop Umari Hatcher Over 69.5 Receiving Yards
Final Prediction: Louisville 34, Syracuse 20
Louisville wins by 14 points, which would narrowly cover the 13.5-point spread. The projected 54 combined points would also finish under the 56.5 total.
