Ball State travels to northwest Ohio on Saturday afternoon looking to stop a four-game losing streak when the Cardinals face Bowling Green at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
Bowling Green enters 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference after consecutive victories over Miami (OH) and Sacramento State. Ball State is 1-5 overall and 0-2 in MAC play after falling 45-14 at Northwestern.
The Falcons are 7.5-point home favorites, and with the total sitting at only 44.5, oddsmakers appear to expect Bowling Green’s defense to play a major role.

Saturday is part of Falcon Family Weekend and Scout Day at Bowling Green.
Bowling Green’s season looked headed in the wrong direction after an 0-4 start, but the Falcons have completely changed their trajectory since MAC play began.
They opened conference action with a 24-20 victory at Miami (OH), with quarterback Jay Kastantin throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns. Bowling Green followed that by crushing Sacramento State 38-10.
Against Sacramento State, Bowling Green scored 38 unanswered points after falling behind 3-0.
Running back Austyn Dendy had his best performance of the season, rushing 15 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Kastantin added a rushing touchdown and a touchdown pass, while Bowling Green’s defense contributed a fumble return for a score.
The defense may be the biggest reason Bowling Green enters as more than a touchdown favorite.
The Falcons recorded three sacks in the first half against Sacramento State, and defensive lineman Myles Bradley increased his season total to a MAC-leading seven sacks.
That pass rush could create serious problems for a Ball State offense that has struggled to consistently protect quarterback Keldric Luster.
Ball State’s trip to Northwestern was difficult from the beginning.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 31-14 halftime advantage and eventually won 45-14. Ball State finished with only 35 rushing yards while allowing Northwestern to produce 436 total yards.
Quarterback Keldric Luster threw for 209 yards in the loss.
For the season, Luster has completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 871 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions in five appearances.
The Cardinals need more help from their rushing attack.
Against Northwestern, Johnny Thompson Jr. led Ball State with only 15 rushing yards, while TJ Horton was held to 10 yards after exploding for 90 yards on nine carries against Toledo the previous week.
Ball State does have playmakers on the perimeter.
Jabari Smith led the Cardinals with 64 receiving yards against Northwestern, while Donovan Hamilton and Smith both surpassed 60 yards against Toledo.
If Ball State is going to stay inside the number, Luster must avoid sacks and generate explosive throws.
College player-prop availability varies by sportsbook, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Dendy is coming off his most productive rushing performance of the season.
With Bowling Green favored by more than a touchdown, the Falcons should be able to remain committed to the run throughout the second half.
Prediction: Austyn Dendy — 76 rushing yards
Kastantin threw only 116 yards against Sacramento State because Bowling Green did not need a high-volume passing attack.
His 305-yard performance at Miami demonstrated a much higher ceiling.
Ball State has allowed opponents to build large leads in consecutive weeks, giving Kastantin a favorable matchup.
Prediction: Jay Kastantin — 218 passing yards
Luster has thrown for 224 and 209 yards in his last two games.
If Bowling Green takes an early lead, Ball State will likely be forced into another pass-heavy game script.
Prediction: Keldric Luster — 213 passing yards
Bowling Green’s offense has improved significantly during its winning streak.
Ball State has allowed 39 points to Toledo and 45 to Northwestern in consecutive games.
That makes the Falcons an attractive candidate to reach the upper 20s.
Prediction: Bowling Green — 30 points
Kastantin has nearly 1,000 passing yards this season and showed against Miami that he can take over a game through the air.
Dendy’s combination of power and red-zone ability gives Bowling Green a dependable way to control possession.
Luster will need to handle Bowling Green’s pass rush while avoiding the interceptions and negative plays that could turn this game into another blowout.
Horton remains Ball State’s most explosive rushing option. His 90-yard performance against Toledo showed what he can provide when given space.
Bowling Green needs to pressure Luster and force Ball State into long-yardage situations. Bradley and the Falcons’ defensive front have the advantage if the Cardinals become one-dimensional.
Offensively, Bowling Green should remain balanced with Kastantin and Dendy.
Ball State must establish some form of rushing attack. The Cardinals cannot expect Luster to throw 35-plus times against a defense generating consistent pressure.
Special teams and turnovers could also be decisive. Bowling Green scored defensively last week and has increasingly taken advantage of opponents’ mistakes.
Bowling Green is clearly trending in the better direction.
The Falcons have won two straight, their defense is generating pressure and their offense has scored 62 points over the last two games.
Ball State has lost four straight and has surrendered at least 39 points in consecutive games.
The 7.5-point spread is substantial for a MAC matchup, but Bowling Green’s defense and home-field advantage make the Falcons the stronger side.
The 44.5 total feels slightly low if Ball State can contribute two touchdowns.
Ball State produces more offense than it did against Northwestern, but Bowling Green controls the game at the line of scrimmage.
Dendy gives the Falcons balance, Kastantin makes enough plays through the air and Bowling Green’s pass rush forces Luster into several difficult possessions.
