The UConn Huskies head to Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Miami RedHawks at Yager Stadium.
UConn enters 2-1 after an impressive 48-20 road victory over Southern Miss, while Miami is 1-2 after letting a 21-point lead slip away in a 35-31 loss to Cincinnati. Saturday will be the first-ever football meeting between the programs and will serve as Miami’s Homecoming game.
This looks like one of the more competitive games on the regional schedule, with Miami favored by only a few points and both offenses coming off encouraging performances.

UConn responded to its 38-14 loss to Maryland with arguably its best performance of the young season.
The Huskies jumped ahead 27-6 at halftime against Southern Miss before rolling to a 48-20 victory. UConn finished with 436 total yards, including 213 rushing yards.
Quarterback Kalieb Osborne has completed 45 of 69 passes for 635 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. UConn is averaging 39.3 points and 443.3 total yards per game.
Osborne was especially effective against Southern Miss, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two more scores.
Running back Cyncir Bowers added a career-high 84 yards on 11 carries, including a 42-yard touchdown.
UConn’s balance could be important against a Miami defense that has shown vulnerability against stronger opponents.
Miami may be only 1-2, but its performance against Cincinnati demonstrated how dangerous this team can be.
The RedHawks raced to a 28-7 first-half lead before Cincinnati rallied for a 35-31 victory. Miami still produced 410 yards of offense, including 334 through the air.
Quarterback David McComb had his best game of the season, throwing for a career-high 334 yards while producing one passing and one rushing touchdown.
Receiver Maleek Huggins emerged as a major threat with a season-high 128 receiving yards and a touchdown. Miami also received a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown from Scoop Smith.
The question is whether Miami can sustain its offense for four quarters after being shut out in the third quarter against Cincinnati.
College player props vary by sportsbook, so these are target numbers based on current production.
Osborne is averaging 211.7 passing yards per game and has become increasingly comfortable operating UConn’s offense.
McComb just carved up Cincinnati for 334 yards. UConn has allowed 264.7 passing yards per game, making this another favorable opportunity for Miami’s quarterback.
Huggins’ breakout performance included receptions of 27, 36 and 41 yards. Miami should continue looking for him downfield.
Porter caught a 39-yard touchdown against Maryland and followed with a 38-yard scoring reception against Southern Miss.
Kalieb Osborne: His dual-threat ability gives Miami another element to defend.
Cyncir Bowers: The running back is coming off a career-best performance and helps UConn maintain offensive balance.
Shamar Porter: Porter has become one of Osborne’s primary big-play targets.
David McComb: Miami’s chances depend heavily on McComb building on his 334-yard performance.
Maleek Huggins: His speed and downfield ability could challenge UConn’s secondary.
Grant Lyons: Lyons recorded two sacks and forced a fumble against Cincinnati, giving Miami a disruptive presence on defense.
Stay Balanced: UConn rushed for 213 yards against Southern Miss. That balance takes pressure off Osborne.
Limit Explosive Passes: McComb and Huggins showed against Cincinnati that Miami can strike quickly.
Reduce Penalties: UConn is averaging more than 93 penalty yards per game, an issue that could be costly in a close road matchup.
Protect McComb: Give him time and Miami has enough receiving weapons to challenge UConn vertically.
Finish the Game: Miami controlled Cincinnati for a half before surrendering the lead.
Force Osborne Into Mistakes: UConn becomes difficult to defend when its quarterback can comfortably combine passing with designed runs and scrambles.
There isn’t much separating these teams.
Miami has home-field advantage and showed against Cincinnati that its passing game is capable of producing explosive plays. However, UConn enters with considerably more balance.
The Huskies are averaging 443.3 yards per game and have held opponents to only 97 rushing yards per contest.
UConn also demonstrated at Southern Miss that it can travel and win convincingly.
Expect both quarterbacks to have productive afternoons, with the game remaining within one possession deep into the fourth quarter.
Miami should make several big plays through McComb and Huggins, but UConn’s combination of Osborne’s mobility and a deeper rushing attack gives the Huskies a slight edge.
This feels more like a field-goal game than one Miami controls comfortably.
