A major SEC matchup takes center stage Saturday night when No. 8 Kentucky visits No. 16 Tennessee at Neyland Stadium.
Kentucky enters 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC, riding a six-game winning streak after beating Vanderbilt 34-17. Tennessee is 6-2 and 3-2, coming off a heartbreaking 27-24 loss at South Carolina. Both teams had an open week before this matchup.
Matchup: No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats at No. 16 Tennessee Volunteers Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026 Kickoff: 6:15 PM ET TV: ESPN Venue: Neyland Stadium — Knoxville, Tennessee Tickets: As low as $354 Point Spread: Tennessee -6.5 Over/Under: 50.5
The Tennessee -6.5 spread means the Volunteers must win by seven points or more to cover. Kentucky +6.5 covers if the Wildcats win outright or lose by six points or fewer. Because of the half-point, there is no possibility of a push.
Tennessee owns an 86-26-9 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last four meetings.
Kentucky has become one of the SEC’s biggest stories under first-year head coach Will Stein.
Quarterback Kenny Minchey has been extremely efficient. Against Vanderbilt, he completed 19 of 26 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Through his first 232 attempts this season, Minchey had thrown only one interception.
Freshman receiver Kenny Darby has become a major weapon. He leads Kentucky with 507 receiving yards through eight games and earned his third SEC Freshman of the Week honor after producing 71 yards against Vanderbilt.
Tight end Willie Rodriguez adds another dependable option. He had six receptions for 67 yards against Vanderbilt and has 39 catches this season.
Kentucky’s defense may be even more important.
The Wildcats held Vanderbilt to just 15 rushing yards and have held three consecutive SEC opponents below 100 rushing yards. Kentucky also entered the Vanderbilt game leading the SEC in turnover margin and has forced at least two takeaways in seven straight contests.
Tennessee’s offense begins with DeSean Bishop.
Bishop has rushed for 957 yards this season and is coming off consecutive monster performances. He rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns against Alabama, then followed with 120 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries against South Carolina.
Tennessee averages 213 rushing yards per game, but Kentucky’s run defense presents one of its toughest challenges.
The Volunteers have used both George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon at quarterback this season. MacIntyre leads Tennessee with 728 passing yards, while Brandon has thrown seven touchdown passes.
Receiver Mike Matthews leads Tennessee with 528 receiving yards and gives the Volunteers their biggest perimeter threat.
Tennessee’s defense has been outstanding, allowing only 16.3 points and 288.4 total yards per game. Opponents average just 122.8 rushing yards and 165.6 passing yards.
College player-prop availability varies by sportsbook and jurisdiction, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Kentucky’s run defense is excellent, but Bishop’s workload makes this number reachable.
He carried the ball 32 times in each of Tennessee’s last two games.
Prediction: DeSean Bishop — 104 rushing yards
Tennessee’s defense is difficult to throw against, but Kentucky may need Minchey to make more plays than usual if Bishop helps Tennessee control possession.
Prediction: Kenny Minchey — 218 passing yards
Darby leads Kentucky in receiving and has become one of Minchey’s most dangerous downfield options.
Prediction: Kenny Darby — 68 receiving yards
Matthews produced seven catches for 85 yards against Alabama and should remain Tennessee’s primary receiving threat.
Prediction: Mike Matthews — 66 receiving yards
Kenny Minchey — Kentucky: His ability to protect the football has been central to Kentucky’s six-game winning streak.
Kenny Darby — Kentucky: Darby’s explosiveness gives the Wildcats a chance to create chunk plays against Tennessee’s strong defense.
DeSean Bishop — Tennessee: Bishop is the most important player in the matchup. Tennessee will try to establish him immediately.
Mike Matthews — Tennessee: Matthews gives the Volunteers the downfield threat needed if Kentucky commits extra defenders to stopping Bishop.
Kentucky must slow Bishop without leaving Matthews isolated too often. The Wildcats have been outstanding against the run recently, but Tennessee’s ground attack is averaging more than 200 yards per game.
Tennessee must force Minchey into mistakes. Kentucky has consistently won the turnover battle, while Minchey has been exceptionally careful with the football.
Red-zone execution will also matter. Tennessee has converted 26 of 27 red-zone trips into scores this season.
The Tennessee -6.5 spread requires the Volunteers to win by at least seven points.
Neyland Stadium gives Tennessee a meaningful advantage, but Kentucky has won six straight and has already shown it can win difficult SEC road games, including victories at South Carolina and Oklahoma.
That makes Kentucky +6.5 attractive.
The 50.5 total also looks slightly high. Tennessee allows only 16.3 points per game, while Kentucky’s defense has been particularly strong against the run.
Bishop gives Tennessee enough rushing production to control stretches of the game, but Kentucky’s defense prevents the Volunteers from pulling away.
Minchey protects the football, Darby creates a few explosive receptions and the Wildcats remain within one possession throughout.
