No. 5 UCLA puts its unbeaten season on the line Saturday when the Bruins travel to Huntington Bank Stadium to face Minnesota in a Big Ten matchup.
UCLA enters 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Big Ten play after shutting out Nevada 27-0. Minnesota is 5-3 and 3-2 in conference play after pushing No. 4 Indiana to overtime before losing 23-16.
Matchup: No. 5 UCLA Bruins at Minnesota Golden Gophers Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026 Kickoff: 12:00 PM ET TV: FOX Venue: Huntington Bank Stadium — Minneapolis, Minnesota Tickets: As low as $41 Point Spread: UCLA -5.5 Over/Under: 39.5
The UCLA -5.5 spread means the Bruins must win by six points or more to cover. If UCLA wins 20-17, Minnesota +5.5 covers because the Gophers lost by only three. A UCLA victory of 24-17 would cover.
Because the line includes a half-point, there is no possibility of a push.
Minnesota leads the all-time series 3-1 and won the most recent meeting 21-17 in 2024.
UCLA enters Minneapolis with one of the strongest defensive résumés in the Big Ten.
The Bruins held Nevada to only 176 total yards while forcing four interceptions in last week’s shutout. It marked UCLA’s first shutout since 2015 and its first home shutout since 2007.
That came one week after UCLA held Michigan State to 156 total yards in a 28-10 victory. The Bruins recorded four sacks, six tackles for loss and forced three turnovers in that game.
Quarterback Ty Dieffenbach gives UCLA a steady dual-threat presence. He completed 16 of 30 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown against Nevada while adding a rushing score. Against Michigan State, he threw for 198 yards and another touchdown.
Running back Wayne Knight remains the offensive centerpiece. Entering the Nevada game, Knight led the Big Ten with 12 rushing touchdowns and 13 total scores while finding the end zone in every game of the season.
UCLA does not need to win shootouts. Its formula is built around rushing efficiency, field position and a defense capable of creating turnovers.
Minnesota is coming off one of its best defensive performances of the season.
The Gophers took defending national champion Indiana to overtime and led 16-13 with 19 seconds remaining before eventually falling 23-16. Minnesota held Indiana to only two third-down conversions on 13 attempts.
Minnesota allows only 20.5 points and 305 total yards per game, including 178.9 through the air.
The concern is offense.
Quarterback Drake Lindsey has thrown for 1,592 yards and 10 touchdowns, but Minnesota averages only 309 total yards per game. Lindsey threw for just 120 yards against Indiana.
Running back TJ Thomas leads Minnesota with 379 rushing yards, while receiver Javon Tracy has a team-high 460 receiving yards.
For Minnesota to pull the upset, it must avoid turnovers and prevent UCLA’s defense from creating short fields.
College player-prop availability varies by sportsbook and jurisdiction, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Knight has been UCLA’s most dependable scoring weapon and should remain the preferred option near the goal line.
Prediction: Wayne Knight — Anytime Touchdown
Dieffenbach does not need huge volume, but this number sits below his output in each of UCLA’s last two games.
Prediction: Ty Dieffenbach — 191 passing yards
UCLA has allowed only 332 total yards combined over its last two games.
Lindsey may struggle to consistently attack downfield against a defense creating pressure and turnovers.
Prediction: Drake Lindsey — 164 passing yards
Tracy caught seven passes against Indiana and remains Minnesota’s most reliable receiving option.
Prediction: Javon Tracy — 58 receiving yards
Wayne Knight — UCLA: His scoring ability and rushing production give UCLA an advantage in a game expected to be low scoring.
Ty Dieffenbach — UCLA: Dieffenbach must protect the football and keep UCLA out of obvious passing situations.
Drake Lindsey — Minnesota: Minnesota’s upset chances depend on Lindsey finding enough explosive plays against UCLA’s defense.
Javon Tracy — Minnesota: Tracy is the Gophers’ leading receiver and should see significant target volume.
UCLA must continue forcing turnovers. The Bruins created seven takeaways over their last two games, including four interceptions against Nevada.
Minnesota needs to establish its rushing attack and avoid putting Lindsey into repeated third-and-long situations.
Field position and special teams could also matter. Minnesota kicker Luke Drzewiecki hit a career-long 60-yard field goal against Indiana, giving the Gophers another weapon in a low-scoring game.
The UCLA -5.5 spread requires the Bruins to win by at least six points.
Minnesota is 4-1 at home and already owns home victories over Michigan and Iowa, so UCLA should expect a physical game.
However, UCLA’s defense is playing at an elite level, while Minnesota’s offense averages only 309 yards per game.
The 39.5 total is exceptionally low, but the under still makes sense considering the style of both teams and UCLA’s recent defensive dominance.
Minnesota keeps this close early behind its defense and home-field advantage, but UCLA eventually creates separation.
Knight finds the end zone, Dieffenbach avoids major mistakes and the Bruins force Lindsey into at least one costly turnover.
