The Cincinnati Bearcats face another difficult Big 12 road test Saturday afternoon when they visit No. 17 Houston at TDECU Stadium.
Cincinnati enters 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play after a 49-25 loss to No. 6 Utah. Houston is 6-2 and 3-2, coming off a bye following a 21-13 loss at Utah. The Cougars remain undefeated at home at 4-0, while Cincinnati is still searching for its first true road victory.
Matchup: Cincinnati Bearcats at No. 17 Houston Cougars Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026 Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET TV: FOX Venue: TDECU Stadium — Houston, Texas Tickets: As low as $37 Point Spread: Houston -11.5 Over/Under: 62.5
The Houston -11.5 spread means the Cougars must win by 12 points or more to cover. Cincinnati +11.5 covers if the Bearcats win outright or lose by 11 points or fewer. Because of the half-point, there is no possibility of a push.
Cincinnati’s biggest positive coming out of the Utah loss was the continued emergence of Cole Tabb.
Tabb rushed for 131 yards on 14 carries, including a 48-yard touchdown. It marked his third consecutive 100-yard rushing performance and fourth of the season.
That production is critical because Cincinnati has been one of the country’s better rushing teams. Before facing Utah, the Bearcats ranked eighth nationally at 234.6 rushing yards per game.
Quarterback JC French IV must rebound from a difficult afternoon. Utah returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown as part of a first half in which Cincinnati fell behind 42-6.
French had been playing excellent football entering that game. Through seven contests, he had completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 1,510 yards, 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions, while adding six rushing touchdowns.
Cincinnati’s path to an upset begins with Tabb and the running game. The Bearcats cannot afford to become one-dimensional against a rested Houston defense.
Houston has been substantially better at home than on the road.
The Cougars are 4-0 at TDECU Stadium, including a 35-32 victory over then-No. 18 Oklahoma State. Their two losses came on the road against Texas Tech and Utah.
Quarterback Conner Weigman is the engine of Houston’s offense.
Through Houston’s first seven games, Weigman led the Big 12 with 20 touchdown passes and was tied for the national lead with 26 total touchdowns.
Even in the loss at Utah, he threw for 282 yards without an interception, although Houston failed to produce a passing touchdown.
Wide receiver Amare Thomas remains his most explosive target. Thomas caught seven passes for 133 yards against Utah and earlier produced 126 yards and two touchdowns against Oklahoma State.
Houston also has balance with running back Makhi Hughes, who gives the Cougars another way to attack Cincinnati’s defense.
College player-prop availability varies by sportsbook and jurisdiction, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Tabb has become Cincinnati’s most consistent offensive weapon.
With three consecutive 100-yard games, the Bearcats should continue feeding him regardless of the score.
Prediction: Cole Tabb — 101 rushing yards
Weigman threw for 282 yards against one of the Big 12’s better defenses despite Houston scoring only 13 points.
Cincinnati just allowed Utah to build a 42-6 halftime lead, creating a favorable matchup for Houston’s passing game.
Prediction: Conner Weigman — 286 passing yards
Thomas enters after another 100-yard receiving performance and has established himself as Weigman’s premier downfield option.
Prediction: Amare Thomas — 91 receiving yards
French’s mobility remains an important part of Cincinnati’s offense.
He scored on a two-yard run against Utah and should have opportunities to scramble if Houston creates pressure.
Prediction: JC French IV — 48 rushing yards
Cole Tabb — Cincinnati: Three straight 100-yard performances make Tabb Cincinnati’s best chance to control the tempo.
JC French IV — Cincinnati: French must avoid the turnovers that allowed Utah to turn the game into a blowout.
Conner Weigman — Houston: His combination of efficiency and touchdown production makes him the most dangerous quarterback in the matchup.
Amare Thomas — Houston: Thomas is coming off 133 receiving yards and can create explosive plays against Cincinnati’s secondary.
Cincinnati must run the football successfully and avoid falling behind early. The Bearcats cannot repeat the Utah game, when turnovers helped create a 42-6 halftime deficit.
Houston needs better red-zone execution than it showed against Utah. The Cougars gained 368 yards and converted 9 of 17 third downs but scored only 13 points.
The Bearcats also need pressure on Weigman. Giving him time to locate Thomas downfield could produce another long afternoon for Cincinnati’s secondary.
The Houston -11.5 spread requires the Cougars to win by at least 12.
Houston’s undefeated home record, explosive passing attack and extra preparation coming off the bye make the Cougars deserving favorites. However, 11.5 points feels slightly high against a Cincinnati team that beat No. 8 Texas Tech 37-24 just two weeks ago.
The 62.5 total is high, but both teams are capable of explosive plays. Cincinnati has scored at least 31 points five times, while Houston has reached 33 or more in five of its eight games.
Houston’s home-field advantage and passing attack eventually become the difference, but Tabb keeps Cincinnati competitive.
Weigman and Thomas generate several explosive plays, while French answers with enough production to prevent the Cougars from completely pulling away.
