Louisville vs. Ole Miss Prediction & Matchup Preview

College football takes center stage Sunday night when No. 24 Louisville meets No. 9 Ole Miss in a nationally televised neutral-site showdown at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Ole Miss enters as a 6.5-point favorite after reaching the College Football Playoff semifinals and winning a program-record 13 games last season.

Louisville counters with an experienced offense led by quarterback Miller Moss, running back Isaac Brown and receiver Chris Bell. Moss threw for 2,679 yards last season, Brown rushed for 884 and Bell led the Cardinals with 917 receiving yards.

Brown may be Louisville’s biggest offensive weapon. His speed and explosiveness give Jeff Brohm the ability to attack Ole Miss on the ground while also creating opportunities for play-action shots from Moss.

Ole Miss possesses one of the nation’s most dangerous offensive combinations in quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy.

Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns with only three interceptions in 2025 while adding 527 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Lacy was even more dominant, setting Ole Miss single-season records with 1,567 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.

The Rebels averaged 36.9 points and nearly 490 yards per game last season. Louisville must prevent explosive plays and force Ole Miss into extended drives rather than allowing Chambliss and Lacy to control the game.

Louisville has enough offensive firepower to make this competitive, but Ole Miss enters with more proven elite-level production at quarterback and running back.

Chambliss averaged 262.5 passing yards per game last season and recorded a school-record 12 games with at least 250 yards.

Louisville’s defense should provide resistance, but Ole Miss is unlikely to become conservative in a matchup between ranked opponents. Expect Chambliss to attack throughout the game and challenge Louisville vertically.

Lacy enters 2026 as one of the nation’s premier running backs after earning first-team All-America honors and finishing as a Doak Walker Award finalist.

Ole Miss should give him a heavy workload to keep Louisville from concentrating exclusively on Chambliss. His combination of power and explosiveness makes 90 rushing yards an attainable target.

Prop Bet #3: Isaac Brown Over 69.5 Rushing Yards

Brown led Louisville with 884 rushing yards last season and remains one of the Cardinals’ most dangerous playmakers.

Louisville’s best strategy may be establishing Brown early and keeping Ole Miss’ explosive offense on the sideline. If the Cardinals remain within one possession, Brown should receive enough carries to threaten this number.

Both teams possess multiple ways to generate points.

Ole Miss produced a school-record 554 points and 7,345 total yards last season, while Louisville returns its leading passer, rusher and receiver.

A competitive second half could push this matchup into the 60-point range.

Players to Watch

Miller Moss — Louisville: Veteran quarterback whose decision-making will be critical against an athletic Ole Miss defense.

Isaac Brown — Louisville: Explosive running back capable of changing the game with one carry.

Chris Bell — Louisville: Louisville’s leading returning receiver after producing 917 yards last season.

Trinidad Chambliss — Ole Miss: One of college football’s top returning quarterbacks after producing 4,464 total yards and 30 total touchdowns in 2025.

Kewan Lacy — Ole Miss: All-American running back who scored 24 rushing touchdowns last season.

Suntarine Perkins — Ole Miss: Veteran linebacker whose speed and athleticism will be important in containing Brown and pressuring Moss.

The Verdict

Prediction

Ole Miss Rebels 34, Louisville Cardinals 27

Best Bets

Ole Miss -6.5Over 55.5 Total Points Kewan Lacy Over 89.5 Rushing Yards Isaac Brown Over 69.5 Rushing Yards

Louisville has enough offensive talent to make this one of opening weekend’s better games. Brown should create problems for Ole Miss, while Moss and Bell give the Cardinals the ability to answer through the air.

The difference is Ole Miss’ proven star power. Chambliss and Lacy form one of the nation’s best quarterback-running back combinations, and their ability to generate explosive plays should eventually create separation.

Prediction: Ole Miss 34, Louisville 27.
