High School Football Spotlight: Will Futhey, WR/TE/DE, Waverly High School

In the Spotlight!

If you have never been to Waverly it is a place you need to go.

1- In 2020 Waverly had a good season losing to powerhouse a really good Clinton Massie team (31-28). What will it take from the team this year to have the same type of year?

We had a great year last year we were able to learn a lot from last season and we look forward to building on that this year it’s going to take a lot of hard work and effort and toughness to fight through the adversity but I believe in my guys and I know they’re going to give me their best each and every day

2- I have taken in the Waverly/Wheelersburg match-up once and if not for a late fumble when you guys were ready to score the Tigers would have won that game. How sweet for you guys as a team was it to get the O.T. win over them last year?

It was definitely special it’s always a battle playing those guys and it’s an instant classic almost every year and every season it’s definitely one of the most anticipated games but winning at our place last year in dramatic fashion was absolutely thrilling we fought back and forth the whole game and for it to be won at the end on a 2 point conversion was just crazy and that game really gave us the momentum to finish strong in league play and go on a playoff run but the rivalry between us is real and it makes the game so much more fun and I’m very excited for this year’s matchup

3- WR/TE/ DE How long have you played each position and which of the three do you like playing the most?

I started playing WR once I got to high school but I’m recruited mostly at TE due to my size and last year was my first year at DE and I absolutely loved it it’s a big change from safety but I love it down there but I’d definitely have to say WR is my favorite position there’s nothing like catching touchdowns

4- After the season is over how important is it to you to be asked to play in one of the all-star games around the state?

It would be awesome to play in one of the all-star games around the state but it’s not necessarily too important to me the season and my team is what matters to me and I just want to succeed with my teammates

5- As a player where do you think the state finals should be played? Why?

Canton for sure I love that the games are played there being at the pro football hall of fame stadium just seems thrilling to me.

6- What did you as a player miss most from last season?

Definitely the fans and not being able to play a full season it seemed kind of unfair to the seniors to not be able to play 4 regular-season games due to covid but we got the most out of the situation and we enjoyed every moment of it but were super stoked to have a full season this year and can’t wait to see a full stadium cheering us on this season

7- At 6-5 210 pounds you are a nightmare matchup for 99.9% of the defenders who will be guarding you. What is your biggest strength as a receiver?

I’d have to say my route running and being able to go up and win over defenders

8- Have you heard from any colleges as far as playing football? Can you name one or two of them?

Yeah I have 7 offers right now from Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Yale, Navy, Old Dominion, Akron, and New Mexico I’m very blessed and I thank god for the opportunities to continue playing at the next level and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me

9- Favorite type of music?

I mostly listen to rap but I like to mix in some country and R&B I’m one of those guys that listen to anything and everything

10-Go to spot in Waverly to eat?

I’d probably have to say Roosters I love the food there and it’s a great atmosphere
