High School Football Spotlight: Justin Haddix Head Coach Boyle County (Kentucky)

In the Spotlight!
Publish Date: 03/16/2021
Fact checked by: Mike Goodpaster

1- Let’s go back to your playing days. You were one of the best quarterbacks I was able to see play back then. What do you think has carried over from those days that shows up in your coaching style?

I had a career playing and got to play for Great coaches. It helped me be the coach I am today! I want all my players to have the great experiences that I had playing the Ultimate Team Game!

2- After you finished your career at Westen Kentucky how long did it take for you to know you wanted to get into coaching?

When I was in college I knew I wanted to be a coach snd got started as soon as I could.

3- As a coach, you have been very successful at the schools you have at. Is there a common thread as far as how you have been able to succeed at each place?

The common thing is having very good players and bringing excitement to the program.

4- It’s 4th and four from the four, you are down four with enough time for one play. What are you calling?

Depends on what team I have. Most of the time I would like to give my Qb options to make something happen running or throwing.

5- How difficult is it to get teams to play in the Bowl game you guys host?

It is difficult getting teams to play us that are close to us but as you have seen our schedule we want to play the best and get our team ready for the playoffs.

6- What are your thought on playing out-of-state teams?

I have always looked to play the best teams and put my team in big-time game atmospheres.

7- Many (fans) seem to forget how important special teams are which brings me to this question. How much time at practice does Boyle County work on special teams?

Specials teams are 1/3 of the game. We start every practice with 15 min of special teams and Monday and Thursday are both big special teams days. 30-45min on those days.

8- How much, if any did you guys miss having a full house at your games during the covid restrictions?

Yes, this year was very difficult dealing with fans and not using our locker room. Our players did a great job adjusting in a difficult situation to be State Champs.

9- What is the toughest offense to prepare for?

When teams can do both consistently run/pass it makes it very difficult to defend.

10- If memory serves you played three sports in high school. If you were not coaching football could you coach another sport?

I played All three baseball-basketball-football growing up and basketball and football in high school. I coached basketball along with football my first 2 years of coaching. I love the game and teaching the game. Being in a competitive environment is the most important thing kids can do. So I encourage to play everything.
