Week 10 was super entertaining across the board highlighted by wins for Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Arizona, and Clemson. WeekΒ 11βs biggest matchup is in the Big Ten but SEC and Pac-12 have some sneaking games that could create unexpected drama. No changes in the 2nd rankings for the Playoff and thatβs just fine because it will all get worked out on the field.
Β
Β
#3 Michigan vs. #10 Penn State: Outside of the locker room the talk has been mostly about stealing signs. Regardless this College Football podcaster doesnβt think it will have much effect on the outcome. Both teams play elite level defense but Penn State has yet to show much via the passing game. The same could be said this year about the Wolverines not being creative on offense but weβve already seen what they can do in big games in 2022. Bottom line is the trust at QB goes to JJ McCarthy until the Nittany Lions show us more with QB Drew Allar. It will be well into the 2nd half before Michigan to separate just enough.
Β
The Pick: Michigan -4.5
Β
Β
#2 Georgia vs. #9 Ole Miss: Both teams are coming off close wins with the Bulldogs getting the better victory over a ranked Missouri club. Georgia has looked very impressive on offense even without their stud TE Brock Bowers. Instead of heavily relying on their rush game this year even with an inexperience QB Carson Beck, Georgia is airing it out relatively speaking of course. The Bulldogs will contain the Ole Miss offense both thru the air and on the ground. That said Georgia has been in a couple close games so the spread is a tough one for this College Football junkie.
Β
The Pick: Georgia wins but +11 Ole MissΒ
Β
Β
#14 Missouri vs. #15 Tennessee: The Vols are a slight favorite and should be looking to the ground and pound to keep Mizzouβs offense off the field. Pounding the rock will help contain the crowd and set up big shots down the field. The QB Grady Cook and WR Luther Burden III is the better duo and I also favor the secondary for the Tigers. The key for Missouri will be coming out of the gates fast enough to be within striking distance because Tennessee tends to start very fast. On the flip side can the Vols keep that same first half intensity for the 2nd half?
Β
The Pick:Β Missouri +2
Β
Β
#6 Oregon vs. #20 USC: This still important PAC-12 rivalry is flying under the radar due to the Trojans horrendous defense. The Ducks feature great balance on offense and that fact Washington ran the ball down USCβs throat the same thing should happen here. The biggest item is how Oregon has been so dominant since taking their loss to the Huskies. As long as they have their eyes on the prize and donβt overlook USCβs explosive offense the Ducks should secure the βWβ. Stranger things have happened and to be fair the Trojans are still in search of a meaningful win.
Β
The Pick: Oregon wins but a late TD makes it +15.5 USC. Β
Β
Β
Minnesota the road dog barley gets over the hump at Purdue as +1.
Β
(Honorable Mention) Rutgers pulls slight upset over #22 Iowa as +1 home dog.
Β
Β
#5 Washington vs. #18 Utah: Washington is vying for a Top-4 Playoff spot and managed to outlast USC last week via run game. That wonβt work as well versus a sturdy Utah defense along with QB Bryson Barnes coming off a 4 touchdown outing. If this one was in Utes-Ville I would think about taking the plus number but thatβs not the case.
Β
The Pick: Washington -9.5Β
Β
#22 Iowa vs. Rutgers: Iowa appears to be in complete control of the Big Ten West making this a perfect time to mess up like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska all did. Rutgers took Ohio State to the semi-deep waters and much like Minnesota the Scarlet Knights can run the ball.
The Pick: Rutgers +1
Β
Β
Miami +14 versus #4 Florida State
Β
West Virginia +13 versus #17 Oklahoma
Β
Stanford +20.5 versus #12 Oregon State
