When asked about under-the-radar prospects, the quarterback position is one of the most scrutinized and difficult to evaluate in sports accurately. A guy like Joe Burrow was under the radar until his senior season at LSU. I am not saying Rising is a Joe Burrow, but he is, no pun intended rising up the ranks of 2023 draftable quarterbacks.
One scout stated, “Everyone wants their mark on a sleeper quarterback. But he’s mine. He can make it spin and has a toughness you love to watch. He was a star at Manning camp, I heard. He could be this years Zach Wilson. Now, I disagree with this assessment because Rising is more of a pro-style quarterback than Wilson and a much better leader.
Wilson, who rose from relative obscurity to become the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft, is a common comparison for Rising, a dual-threat, strong arm. For years, the Manning Passing Academy has served as a testing ground for potential quarterbacks. People are anticipating Rising’s season after seeing his performance there.
Another Scout said that Rising’s arm talent, mobility and hype were the reason he got all the attention at the Manning camp. Although he’s not the most popular guy, I heard that he was more successful than many of the top quarterbacks in the camp.
Rising, who began his college career at Texas in Texas, ended the 2021 season with the sixth-best QBR (84.2). On his 352 dropbacks, he was also sacked six times.
Predictions for the 2023 draft: It’s difficult to place him in the top group, as he is competing with Bryce Young(Alabama) and C.J. Stroud (Ohio State), plus Will Levis(Kentucky), who is expected to lead the pack. Rising is a Day 2 prospect but has the potential to climb the board.
