13. Northwestern Wildcats
The Wildcats season-opening win looks less and less impressive every weekend because Nebraska is a dumpster fire, and now it’s because we realize that the Wildcats are to. A Big Ten team is not supposed to lose to Southern Illinois.
12. Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illini did not ply this weekend.
11. Iowa Hawkeyes
I think the Hawkeyes will somewhat figure out the offensive issues before the season is over, and the defense is very good, but at this point, we can only rank what we see and what we see on offense has not been good.
10. Purdue Boilermakers
The Boilermakers are better than the number ten team in the Big Ten, but until they start finishing games, the ranking will stay here. In the Boilermakers defense they were victimized by some untimely questionable calls.
9. Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers are 3-0, but they had to come from behind at home to beat Idaho and Western Kentucky. That does not bode well for a team playing in the Big Ten.
8. Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State failed their first big test against the Washington Huskies on Saturday. The Spartans offense has issues and if those don’t get cleaned up before Big Ten play it could be a long season.
7. Wisconsin Badgers
The Badgers bounced back from a bad home loss to Washington State last week with a win over New Mexico State. Pardon me if I am not impressed. The Badgers will show us who they are this weekend as they play Ohio State. I don’t think next weekend will end well for the Badgers.
6. Maryland Terrapins
Maryland got a challenge from a solid SMU team and passed the test. We know the recent history of the Terps and that’s to look like an improved team, until they get to Big Ten play and then the bottom drops out.
5. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Rutgers is eerily similar to Maryland as they struggled on the road to beat the Temple Owls. The Knights do seem to be much improved though, but are they improved enough to win games in the Big Ten? Check out our top

4. Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Gophers blew out a bad Colorado team on Saturday, and they are undefeated, but the completion has been poor. But this is a talented team, and they are the best team in the West.

3. Penn State Nittany Lions
The Nittany Lions were impressive on the road in a win over Auburn. If Sean Clifford can avoid the big mistakes, he made in the past, the Nittany Lions look like they can play with anyone in the Big ten.
2. Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines have been explosive on offense behind Quarterback JJ McCarthy, but the schedule has been soft. The Wolverines could be a CFP team again this season but it’s heard to tell with the cupcake schedule.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes’ offense had looked disjointed, at least they were up until yesterday as they hung 77 points on Toldeo. Yes, I know it was just Toldeo but it was still impressive. Questions do still exist about the Buckeyes’ defense though.
