7 Grueling Truth’s we Learned during week 5 of the College Football season

Publish Date: 10/02/2023

What we learned in week 5

1) The Georgia Bulldogs are just fine

In their season opener against UT-Martin, the Bulldogs had a slow start against them; only a touchdown three seconds from halftime saved the scoreboard from looking much worse at 17-0 at halftime.

They got off to an uneventful start against Ball State by failing to score in the opening quarter.

Week 3, South Carolina led 14-3 at halftime.

Week 4, when they played UAB, took until midway through the third quarter before pulling away.

On Saturday, Georgia edged Auburn, who is offensively anaemic. QB Carson Beck has been fine, overall, the Bulldogs have been fine, but they do not look like a team that can win a National Championship.

2) Brian Kelly is on the hot seat at LSU

The Tigers opened the season as the fifth-ranked team but now have two losses after surrendering 711 yards to the Rebels, setting a school record.

Brian Kelly does not fit in down on the bayou, and it’s only a matter of time before he is fired.

The SEC looks down this season, and Tiger fans have unrealistic expectations of their entire program. Kelly will be the man who goes down, possibly by the end of this season, as the Tigers continue to struggle.

3) It’s time to respect Kentucky Football

Missouri was the last SEC team to start 4-0 without being ranked entering Week 5. Since then, 37 other SEC teams have done so… but none were unranked like Kentucky, not since that Missouri team in 2013.

The Wildcats’ schedule has not been stellar, but they gave the Gators a beating on Saturday and next up are the Georgia Bulldogs. Don’t be surprised if the Wildcats give the Dawgs all they can handle.

4) Notre Dame gets a massive road win

Last weekend, Notre Dame found itself the victim of Ohio State’s last-second drive – one final strike from an excruciating contest that would prove fatal for Notre Dame.

On Saturday, Notre Dame dealt that same painful blow to Duke when Audric Estime scored with 31 seconds left for Notre Dame’s 21-14 win.

Notre Dame seemed doomed to play another physical, grueling, nasty game this season. Leading 10-0 at halftime, Notre Dame held on in the second half. If the Irish want to be a playoff team, the offense must start showing more consistency!

5) West Virginia is on a roll

Coach Neal Brown attempted to explain to lamestream media their mistake in choosing West Virginia last in the Big 12. Still, this tactic proved futile as they refused to admit their error and acknowledge they made any miscalculations.

On Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, West Virginia topped TCU 24-21 to improve to 4-1 this season; their only loss coming against Penn State. Colorado also beat TCU this year – so Neal Brown can be considered Appalachia’s Deion Sanders!

Either way, Brown has done a great job so far this season, and the Mountaineers seem like the real deal.

6) The USC Trojans have defensive issues

USC is a national championship favorite, but if you watched the Trojans’ defense on Saturday, you would know unless the defense gets fixed, they are not winning a National Championship.

Sure, Caleb Williams is the best QB in the country, and the Trojans can score at will. The issue is the defense can be scored on at will also. The Trojans gave up 41 points to a Colorado offense that could only muster six points at Oregon last week.

7) Here comes Brady Cook and the Missouri Tigers

Brady Cook now holds 11 touchdown passes with no interceptions after throwing for 395 yards and four scores against Vanderbilt, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Over his 348 consecutive passes without an interception since last season — setting a new SEC record– Missouri is 9-3 over this span! With the SEC looking down this season, who nows just how far the Tigers could go!
